January 18, 2003 - Milwaukie, OR Dark Horse To Release Billy Tucci's SHI Statue
One of the true sensations of the independent comics resurgence has been Billy Tucci's award-winning Shi. After witnessing the brutal slayings of her father and brother, Ana Ishikawa transforms herself to Shi - the living embodiment of Death, who since childhood, has terrified and encouraged Ana in her crusade of vengeance.
And yet the duality that rages Ana's soul will not permit her submission to the death demon that terrorizes her. For Ana's faith and the ethereal visions of her gallant ancestral Sohei shepherd her along the bloody Way of the Warrior.
Now Dark Horse Comics and the skilled hands of sculptor Steve Kiwus have crafted the ultimate three-dimensional version of SHI. Working in concert with creator Billy Tucci, Kiwus, well known among collectors for his interpretations of the female form, has come up with a statue that captures the essence of this modern masterpiece.
"As a long time fan of Steve's incredible smoothness of form and mastery of contraposto, this is a nothing short of a dream come true for any creator. I am deeply honored to have a Kiwus sculpture of Shi!" Tucci exclaimed.
"We couldn't agree with Billy more", Dark Horse product development head
David Scroggy noted, " and we are very proud to be able to offer this special piece to Shi's many readers. The attention to detail, combined with the ability Kiwus brings to a sculpture of the human figure, gives us a really successful version of this latter day heroine. They have chosen a great pose that combines Shi's beauty, strength and skill with an aura of danger. It's exciting."
The statue is approximately 10" tall, and is made available as a prepainted limited-edition of only 750 pieces for worldwide distribution. Packaged in a full-color collector's box, the statue also comes with a certificate of authenticity that is signed by creator Billy Tucci and sculptor Steve Kiwus. Available April 2003, the Shi statue has a suggested retail price of $125.00.
