Not to distract from the general direction of the Quiz, but for whatever reason I have been thinking about this little ditty recently - trying to remember the entire thing that a friend used to say. It went like this, "I see said the blind man to the deaf mute..." (who goes on to say something, etc.) So, since this was the topic of the moment, I did a little research. (Okay, I googled it.) These are apparently called Wellerisms or "Tom Swifty's". These are circular statements where the "adverb relates both properly and punningly to a sentence of reported speech." A common (and humorous one) is "The doctor had to remove my left ventrical", said Tom half-heartedly.
