I just finished reading the entire series, and I must say, WOW! This has to go down as some of Billy's best art ever. There is a picture of Shi on pg. 7 of issue 4, next to the panel where the theatre-goers are in line, that just blows my mind. The story was great and I like how it finished up. Thanks for such an entertaining event such as Shi Ju-Nen.

Hey Billy, are you going to have any pages from Ju-Nen up for sale in San Diego? If so, I'll have to start selling some blood. :)

I can't say how enjoyable it has been seeing the fashion fused into this series. It brought the characters to a new level for me. I hope that this trend is continued in future series. I also have to say Kudos to either JC or Billy, or both. The humor in this issue rocked. I laughed several times.

possible spoiler

I agree with you on both accounts. The styles worn by the twins were pretty cool. I like how they were so different from one another. I really liked the ponytail haistyle. I was amazed to see the amount of detail put into the clothing that had to be repeated panel after panel.
Tomoe is such a sarcastic little brat, she cracks me up. Even in the most dire situation, she would drop a joke. Very funny, Billy and JC.
The scene where Shi delivered that well placed arrow is killer. It made me say out loud, YEAH!".
I will have to re-read this many times to fully take it all in. The theatre massacre scene is awesome. So much going on in that pic, it was hard to stop reading to try to see everything.

Thanks so much! Your comments are always appreciated, but I'm so happy you liked the humor. I figured that Tomoe was going crazy, so what the heck!

Billy was 100% responsible for the fashion idea.

Hey, I designed that page! I knew Billy would kick ass on it (and he did!). I know I've been doing this for years now... but I never get tired of seeing what a good or even great artist can do with a concept out of my head!

Billy did an amazing job with this. His move of getting Anna Sui (and even getting covered by the Wall Street Journal) was brilliant. His own fashion design background really came into it, too.

Thanks! Billy said she was going crazy and kindly let me go to town with her once he decided to go that way.

I must say, viewing the Nara between the feet of the fallen actor was priceless. I didn't notice it the 1st read, but the second read caracked me up.

Just read the #4 issue.  Amazing art.  TOMOE gets very likeable and silly in this issue.  I will be looking at the detail of that fight scene for a while.  This issue shows a little different writing where it is more narration or commentary than inside the action on a few pages.
JCV: what that intentional?
As a 4-part series, one of the best in recent years.

Joe, yes, definitely an intentional shift. The underpinning idea was that the battle was really over as soon as it started.

Hello all

I went to my comic book store few days ago, and found that my Sub had   Ju-Nen #4. I am very happy. I havent had a chance to read the previous 3. Now with all of them in my sights, I am drooling to read.

Sorry I havent posted in a long while. I had been ill, and my recovery had been slow. I enjoyed reading alot of solits for the coming months. And the coffee table book was something I am drooling for.

I have shown some family members who are not info comics the art and they really love the Shi artwork. This coffee table book would be perfect for me, cause I love to show things that I enjoy.

I had never been to a comic convention and I was planning to go to Wonder-Con in San Francisco, but I just was not feeling well.

I am hoping to go next year. I hope the crusade staff will be there too.

Thank you again for the hard work and being so near to the fans.

You already know what mine will be like. :P Maybe tomorrow, when I get back from my girl friend's place -- that is, if you want to hear my fecking anal-retentive nitpicking.

on a side note when does the Illustrated warrior TPB come out ?

does anyone have any info so I can give it to my shop to order it for me?

It's almost complete.  Will be out in July for Comic Con...  We're working on that, Demon Gun TPB, Senryaku Prose (like to get that to you Nish when I get final files from Gary), and our Shi Summer Preview.

I'm still trying to figure out which cover to use but will most likely use one of the following two.

Which do you guys prefer?

Hm? Is this the 'Crusade favor' you wanted to ask me about but haven't yet? *pokes Billy in the ribs*

(I'm only home long enough to give my eldest cat her thyroid meds, and then I'm back to my friend's place. I'll be in again in a few hours and will put up my unwelcome and effing anal nitpicking.)

The Illustrated Warr'r TPB Cover

Good question. The Red Requiem picture is recognizable as being a variation of one of the Illustrated Warrior covers, but I really do like that pencil sketch (graphite edition, anyone?). Maybe Red Requiem for the front and the face picture for the back?
