Well Crusaders, here I am in Jolly old England, in the quaint little area called Hammersmith in London.
It sure is picturesque, but I almost get killed every time I step into the street beacause I am looking the wrong way. I have had to say to myself at every curb, "Right, then left, right then left." People here are awfully nice. They are warm and welcoming. The second night we were here we got an invite to a closing night party for a play by the "Irish Center". We went to their party and drank Jameson and danced jigs until 4 in the morning. It was a real cross cultuaral experience. I did some break dancing to offer an American alternative. Anyway, everyone in the room had a constant smile smeared all over their faces. Mine included.
I sure miss my family though. They will be coming out within the next two weeks though.
|All sales of alcohol cease promptly at 11:00 and the pubs shut down. If you are out later than midnight, you realize that everyone is asleep.
There are some speakeasy's in the west end, we visited one the other night. It was so small and everyone was smoking. The next day even my socks stank of smoke.
I can't find wireless internet hot points here so I am unable to share photos with you all. I will be sorting that out soon enough though.
I have met a lot of interesting people. Last night a photojournalist came to the show and he had his laptop with him, so I got to see all the shots he has been taking across the world, Afghanistan, Iraq, NYC, Africa. . . He is quite a photographer and I recognized many shots from newspapers and news magazines. I look forward to speaking with him some more.
Everyone likes the play so far. They certainly are a different type of audience than Americans. They laugh at some things that never got a laugh, and don't laugh at other things that always got a laugh.
A lot of it is in the language barrier, and yes we speak the same language but I can't understand a damn thing half the time. I constantly have to ask the person to repeat themselves. As they ask me to repeat myself to them.
I realized that they are more exposed to extreme european accents and languages than they are of American accents. I am an oddity to them. As soon as I open my mouth, they give me a quick double take.
Well, it has been beautiful weather, we are experiencing a lovely 'indian summer' . Hope all is well back in the states.
Cheerio!
