The card Set is his "Fatal Beauty" cards that ushered the release of his "Fatal Beauty" tribute art book. The "She" chatacter is the 1st page in his comic bound art book. He changed the name of all the characters.

The difference in the 2 "Shi/She" chase cards (besides the $20 difference) is the border around the card.

Delvie is on top of his game.
Quite a nice history lesson.
The source I had said TOMOE GOZEN was led by Minamoto Yoshinaka.  Is that the same person?

Both names apply. General Kiso Yoshinaka (also Tomoe's hubby) was a member of the Minamoto clan.

Also of note, the war was between Minamoto Clan & the Taira Clan

What confuses me, is: 1/2 the sources claim she became a nun when hubby died in battle... while others say they died together.

The historical Tomoe was in theory born about 1155 AD. There is now much speculation in scholarly circles as to whether she ever actually existed. This is based on the fact that there are no contemporary records that mention her (she begins to show up in histories written a hundred years or so after the fact). Pesonally, I like to think she did exist.
Also, the handful of documented female warriors were usually referred to as bushi (or as Delvie says, Onna-musha). They were not called samurai. I only mention this because my Japanese father in law has drilled that into my head-calling a female warrior 'samurai' sounds much the same to a Japanese person as saying 'female brother'-the term only applied to some male members of the bushi class (since all samurai were bushi, but not all bushi were samurai...sometimes this stuff makes my head hurt!^_^).

And if you want to learn more in a fun way, I highly recommend this year's NHK Taiga drama Yoshitsune (which covers the whole Gempei war, featuring my favorite Matsudaira Ken as the ultimate warrior monk Benkei). You can get it from TV Japan with English subtitles here in the states (available through lots of cable companies and dish network).

And BTW, would the answer to the quiz be Shi:Kaidan (Kwaidan) #1? Not too sure, but I think it had 3 stories.

Good guess, but this is a non-SHI set of stories, even though the edition has SHI advertisements in the back.

& I was going to guess Lethargic Lad #1. I was in a store in Kent Washington a month ago & the owner said, "Shi is Crusade? I've got a box back here of Crusade stuff." & I started seeing all this stuff that I'd never seen before that was produced by crusade. I started wondering, "where have I been for the past 10 years?"

Great job Frankster.
Goes to show that probably everyone can be linked to SHI in our culture somehow.
