Hi my name is Donna and I was the winner of the Shi Tat contest years ago :) Finally I have found this site after my brain going nuts on this-I haven't seen Kill Bill but from what I hear I think that it takes the "idea" of Shi's character....Just twisted around~~What does everyone else think....When people try to explain Kill Bill I say to them "let me guess Bill kills someone close to her and she tries to avenge the death and slices people up right?" Who does that sound like to you lol SHI~~I mean cmon, how many stories about women slaying people "ninja style" are there out there. I will personally kick some a$@(#* when I hear people saying "that new movie Shi is like Kill Bill" ::) I can't wait to put them in there place. P.S-My tat is getting more compliments then ever and through my tat I have turned people onto Shi forever :)
Hope to hear what everyone thinks~ 8)

1st off...Welcome to Ana's NUTHOUSE Glad you finally found the playground!
2ndly
Unfortunately, I haven't seen Kill Bill yet, but yeah, I fully expect the ignorant & misnformed to compare Shi w/ everything from Elektra to Kill Bill. That is pretty much unavoidable. The key to combating this, however, is to make a movie so intricate, so powerful, so awe inspiring that previous characters don't even enter people's minds. Leave them in the dust. That way, even if people do want to compare, others will say "NO WAY MAN! They aren't even on the same level. Shi makes Kill Bill look like a B movie!"
Just my opinion.
;P

Wow LOL this is a fun thread...I am actually obsessed with anything Asian :) Japanese pop culture is what I am into most now. The "Blythe" doll is an underground sort of hobby that girls 18 and over collect. My friends and I all handmake clothing for her and then take photoshoots of her. I need to make an outfit that looks like Shi's and dress Blythe in it and photograph that :) That would be so cool. I have eight dolls total...Speaking of Asian...The movie The Last Samurai rocked!!!!OHHHHH and I am a fan of Riccis also...The last movie I saw her in was Pumpkin. One of my favorite rolls she is in is the movie Pecker. It was hilarious. I need to whip out my Shi comics and do a little reading to get it fresh in my head again..It has been awhile. Ever since my local comic store closed down....I lost touch with her. Now that I have the internet, I rekindled my love for Shi....Damn you know my love for her, she (no pun intended) is tattoed on me for life :) So I will always have a connection with her character~~Anybody else see those movies I mentioned?

Hello, Donna. I'm into the Asian pop culture thing too. Especially the Tokyo Shock type films (like Battle Royale and Ichi The Killer, etc.) As for the Shi/Kill Bill comparison you mentioned, I have seen Kill Bill (great film), and I have read Shi, and I have collected David Mack's Kabuki series, and although these stories have similarities, they each stand on their own as very different tales. I recommend them all. And I plan on seeing The Last Samurai this week.

The "Blythe" doll is an underground sort of hobby that girls 18 and over collect. & now, THANX 2 YOU, I can now spot a 4"x6" Blythe book cover from 30' away. I was @ Tate's Comic Shop in Lauderhill, FL today when I turned a corner & saw great big Powder Puff like eyes staring @ me across the room. It was the Japanese "This is Blythe" book. I'm not quite sure how to handle this. LOL. Is this a permanant condition or will this madness pass?Damn you know my love for her, she (no pun intended) is tattoed on me for life I am sure your tattoo is on the friends page. Which one is it?Anybody else see those movies I mentioned? I think I've seen Pumpkin. Pretty sure I missed Pecker (leave that statement alone, guys). I saw The Last Samurai. Certainly, the best movie I've ever seen. It had a monumental effect on me. I'm still numb from it. As far as the rest of my opinions of the movie... I'll keep it to myself. I certainly hope TLS puts a fire under Mimi & friends to concentrate on making the Shi movie everything it can be.

Hey guys and a big welcome to you Donna! I'm very honored that you came on board, and am even more so that you got that great tat! I am in the process of writing Mimi a letter and film treatment explaining my ideas on what the Shi film should be. I'll post it on the site. Mimi really gets the whole idea and is really quite sassy in the story department. She's just great and I cannot wait to post the letter for all to see. Anyhow, I haven't seen "Kill Bill" either, but as long as I can justify my story and give em' something so original we have nothing to worry about...

Hey Billy, you mentioned posting the treatmet possibly here at the site on the other thread. Will this be possible or does it have to be kept secret? Will you be directing the movie? If you can't direct it, who would you want to direct? Which Actress would you cast if you could do that? Thanks in advance if you can elaborate on these.
To Answer the first posters question, I really think Kill Bill is a different movie. I don't think it resembles the Shi story at all.

Hi Donna. Tarantino said that O-Ren Ishii was modeled upon Kashima Yuki, the heroine of Shurayukihime(Directed by Fujita Toshiya. Original story and art by Koike Kazuo and Kamimura Kazuo). He is the great fan of Japanese actress Kaji Meiko, and KILL BILL was produced as a mark of respect for '70s Japanese movies. It has no relation with SHI.
FYI, O-Ren was named after the character who was played by Shihomi Etsuko in Kage no Gundan 4 and Ishii is name of Tarantino's favorite Japanese movie directer Ishii Teruo.
Billy, I'd love to hear what you think about Kaji Meiko. Had you seen Sasori?

Itomaru-san, I've heard of Teruo's work, but don't think I've ever seen any of his movies. "Sasori?" What's it about? Since I'll be spending about 90% of my creative energy towards Shi the first 6 months of 94' (hopefully that and writing and directing "The Magnificent 7th Graders") I need to get into total kanji mode! Where can I get that film? Is it on DVD? If it's hard to obtain, can anyone burn or lend me a copy? thanks, Billy
