Today is the 60th anniversary of the crash of 42-40671 and the crew of the B-24D "Double Trouble" just north of Port Moresby, New Guinea.

Lost were all hands including my cousin 2nd Lt. Arthur Zuckerman.

The bird was part of a major assault on Raibul but after being airborne for about an hour, circled back to base on fire.  The pilot attempted a dive to extinguish the blaze, according to the offical accident report, but to no avail.

Unfortunately, there are hundreds of stories chronicalling such sacrifice.  

What a world we live in.  Thanks for the story Robiesan.  I know you wrote a screenplay for it.  Perhaps you can post a synopsis for everyone to read and comment on.
