Wonderful work, Billy! Day Five is a very moving depiction of "brothers in arms". Definitely looking forward to this series!

This is really intense art work!! I only hope it doesn't get inked over! A direct coloring would fit it much better.
it won't be

Here's the first page guys. The book is slated to be released in November for Veteran's Day! They're going to give it a huge push! I don't know if I can keep it up for long but check it out -- my homage to Joe Kubert -- heck, I figure if I'm doing Rock I should open it up with a Kubert inspired illustration...

Billy, that is awesome!!! Is the story going to be a narrative of sorts? The homage is spot on. Your likeness is great as well. I am so looking forward to this series. Let's hope it brings you all the fortune your talent, persaverance and personality deserve. You ROCK!

Thanks bro -- I see some mistakes now -- must enlarge the map at the bottom of the page about 30-40% -- otherwise when it's reduced you won't be able to read it. I also want to fix Rock's right shoulder a bit. Yes it's a narrative told by yours truly -- the character's name is Kilroy, he's a cartoonist for "Up Front" magazine.

Excellent detail in the line work! Have you spoken to Mr. Kubert at all about this project?
That's a wonderful idea of having a narrator. This book is paying tribute to those brave men and having the book being based on the "recollections" of someone who is ensuring such a story isn't lost adds an interesting dimension to the story. I was looking forward to this being out by D-Day, but I'll just have to wait a few more months!

Nice detail work Billy. Great to hear about the push in November. Any chance of a Kubert &Tucci Variant Cover? I know he is working on TOR right now.

Chris, My plan for marketing is to have the books each have a Tucci variant (1/25), and a Kubert (1/100). Fingers crossed!!

Here's pages 2 and 3. Though they're not lined up right or cleaned up, you'll get the idea of the scene.

Great detail! The first thing that came to mind when I looked at the pages was Sherman's statement of "War is Hell".

Thanks guys, My initial concept was to show the invasion on a grand scale. But in reality, it was really up to the individual infantrymen on Easy Red sector of Omaha beach. The supporting tanks sunk or were destroyed and it all boiled down to small units. I like it as it shows the intimacy and horror of war. The smoke screen laid down to protect the troops lifted just as the first wave hit -- exposing them to the enemy. This actually takes place at H-Hour plus 01 -- 6:31 am, one minute after the first men of the Big Red One hit the beach. If you look carefully, you'll see all of our Easy company guys here. Either by personal traits or weapons. I'd like to see if anyone can point them out.

Billy - You continue to do the best work of your career. This is phenomenal stuff! I think, though, you should make Sgt. Rock it's own major category because I believe a lot of people -- partiucarly those who fell prey to the "bad girl artist" label -- are going to discover or rediscover you through this project. Later! JCV
