READY TO KICK SOME ASS

« on: Thu, October 11, 2007, 14:44:22 »

TRUCKIN WITH SLAMMY

Well the time has come to take this big step into my new career.
Friday night  I will leave to head on down to Chattanooga TN. for orientation.
So by Next Friday I should be on the road.
I have no Idea how or when the next time I will be able to log into the forum.

I will be away from home till about Thanksgiving. At that time I should have a few days at home.
Then I will be meeting up with my new partner. For the next 6months . We will be riding all over the country.  We should be averaging between  5000-6000 miles per week.  Yes I said a week. One drives the other sleeps.

I plan on using this thread as my Blog.  I hope to share with you some of my road experiences.

I just do not know the how or the when.  This is going to be a whole new life style for me.

Also those of you who send me emails from time to time. Need to make note of my new address
My old address will be shut off tomorrow.  If you could send me a email to this new address. So I can add you that way  sllamky@gmail.com  it would be helpful.

I will miss our daily conversations. Well,  haha til you learn to use your cellphone text messages.  Reminds me of the tv show Angel. 400 yrs old & could not figure out how his voice mail worked. He would always cuss if he didn't get the call before it went to voice mail & a lot of times he would hand his cell to whatever demon he was fighting and ask them to access his voice mail for him so he could check his messages. They made a big thing about it for an entire season. They even joked about David B's character on Bones having trouble using his cell phone once. Don't know if it was a nod to Angel or David adlibbing.

When you get your laptop & wireless, you can use voice recognition software to instant message. Then your partner will think you're crazy to talking to yourself while he/she tries to sleep.

GOOD LUCK, BUDDY!
STAY SAFE!

Just a quick update on the road from Slammy.

SLAMMY'S POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE
Quote
Hey guys. I really miss being able top talk to everybody & see how everybody's doing. I haven't been able to get online much, & when I have, it's been $7.50 for a few minutes.

It's a completely different world out here. Constantly on the go. Not able to go everywhere w/ a big truck. Having a trainer that I'm not especially fond of & having to be 3' or so from him almost constantly.
My trip so far has been:
Chatanooga, TN ------> Vegas
Vegas --------> Washington
Washington ---------> Reno
Reno --------->

I had a 36hr layover in Vegas, so I got to go see some shows while in town. We figured, why spend it sitting @ a truck stop. I've been able to take some good pictures out the window while bubba is driving. We just left Reno & we're barreling on towards Indiana. Sometimes I can sleep. Sometimes I can't. You can feel ALL the potholes in this thing. Especially, when you're on your back trying to pretend it's really a king size. But it helps knowing that I've got my friends @ the crusade forum & that my friend Billy is just finishing up my art... ;) Those are the good dreams. So, anyway. Hopefully, I can finish the 35 day training period & be on to better pastures.

Big hug to all of you & I miss being able to hang. Big what's up to Billy & I hope your trip went well.

PS. This is not exactly verbatim

Wow what a treat I am on the internet and I am not paying for it.   we are some where in PA not sure where.  we are at a truck stop and they have a best western next door so I snuck in and jumped online at least till they realize I'm not a guest.

thanks Delvie for relaying my message.  I really do miss you all.

things have gotten worse between my trainer and me we are going to try to get a reassignment this week.

driving that big rig down the mountins is a hair raising experance.

Dawn. the only place we went in Vagas was hotel Rio   It was the only one that had trucker parking.  they just had so free shows that were going on every 2 hrs.  but real cool song and dance the girls looked like Vagas girls should so I was happy.  I was so broke I only played the penny slots.   but if you are playing drinks are free.  I never drank so much for less than a buck....

till next time

the place has changes so much since the last time I was there

the first time was when I got married to wife #1  back in 86 I think??

now it is all these mega hotels.  there is a shuttle that will take you to all the major hotels. do that first and see what you can see for free. many have these shows in there main aeras.  but do not think becouse it is free is is small or not good. I had a great time

Food is not cheep like it use to be.

But I'm sure you will have a great time

I am sure we will.  We have looked at going horseback riding, avt tours, and a tour that included a helicopter and river raft tour and also looking into seeing Stomp.

But after Tj heard that you can have free drinks just by playing the penny slots he said I may actually get to see you drunk for once.   rofl  He is dreaming on that one lol

So Dawn, does that mean that you've never been drunk before, or that TJ has never been in position to see you drunk?

That is a lot of miles.

Scott I know you are training, but I have a question for ya....is it normal for semi's to lose a tire and the driver not know it?

I ask because last night a tragic accident happened on the interstate here in Milwaukee.  One of Tj's favorite Dr. died last night.  A tire had poped off the semi bounced over the median and landed on his car, his name was Dr. Krishna Neni and Tj was going to ask him if he would be willing to back us in our venture, but he died before paramedics got there and suffered massive head trauma and a broken neck when the tire crushed the drivers side windsheild.  Apperently the driver didnt realized this happen.

So be careful out there Scott!!

I can probably answer this.
If the tire came off the cab itself, it might cause a significant enough drag to be noticed. The front tires would be noticable for certain. But the back tires of a cab are usually 8 tires in dual sets or tandem. If one blows, there's one right beside & one behind (or in front) of it to carry the load. If the tire came off the trailer, than it could very hard to tell. @ the rear end of the trailer there are 4 sets of dual tires. If one blows, again, there's one right beside it & behind it.

Well I found out that Dr. Neni had convinced Tj to stay in nursing several times over and was trying to convince him to go over to the hospital where he was Cheif of Staff.

All Tj hoped that he went to a good place and I told him if he still practices the Hindu religion, then he has gone to his heaven in his religion.
