READY TO KICK SOME ASS

« on: Thu, November 16, 2006, 06:08:00 »

What was I thinking opening day and I let 3 Doe s  walk by me witch is ok since you need a doe permit and I could not get one this year.  But the Killer is I let a spike horn go by. but then I also decided to let a 6 pointer keep walking. and I had it in my sights.  but I want a big rack and a 6 pointer just was not good enough.  the problem is. Here the 2nd day is a wash becouse it was pooring down rain this morning so my uncle decided we were not going out. they are calling for more rain for friday. maybe we will get lucky and it will turn colder and turn to snow.

I may be regretting that 6 pointer for years to come. I still have never taken a Buck grrrrrrrrr

You'll surely be going out again before the end of the season, right?

Oh Slamky!  You've got to get your first buck!  Good Luck!  I haven't gone once this season.  Hopefully I'll go duck hunting Wednesday afternoon and Thanksgiving morning.

Again, good luck!

I know it will be a matter of time before Tj will be out there with Nate.  About a couple weeks ago, Nate asked Dad, "how old do I have to be to shot a gun and to go hunting?"

Tj stopped his hunting when he started dating me which was 13 yrs ago.  And I never told him to stop.  What he doesnt do and has lost touch of doing is his archary and we live like 2 miles away from a range.

Huh? Rain and snow shouldn't slow you down or hold you back.

Rain dampens the leaves and heightens your stealth, while the deer tends to cuddle up, staying put under pines or heavy brush. Meanwhile you're taking your time poking along looking for sign.

Snow! I love to hunt in fresh snow! Tracks galore! scrapes might be covered, but nothing like seeing that 6 pointer actually take a few breaths after being put out and chased by some other hunter that, if you're sitting in the right spot, puts that buck coming right across your line of sight.
Remember: As he's coming into your sights -- Breath, relax, aim, slack, squeeze.

Take a breath and let it half out. Relax. Take aim. Draw down slow...never jerky or quickly. Take up the slack in your trigger. Every gun is different. Then, slowly squeeze that trigger.  "course, you guys know all this. lol

Good luck this season, sllamky! You too, Bill!

READY TO KICK SOME ASS

Well I am back home and the only head hanging is my head hanging down low.

Here is the story. A friend of my uncles had gone out to the woods and placed 3 special camera in the woods.  When we were looking at the photos before opening day.  We saw that we had a Monster  Buck in the area. It was on film every other day. And was due opening day.  I had many rubs in the area and tracks were everywhere.  Including these huge ones.  Well that is why I let the 6 pointer go.  Well the story gets worse I never saw another Buck the rest of my time.
So my last hour in the woods. I did a bit of walking around hoping to spook up a back. No luck. Then I came up to a camp of hunters that had been hunting during Bow season and stayed for the first week of rifle Season.  Well I found out why no one saw this monster buck. It was taken down the last day of Bow Season.  In the clearing I was hunting.  14 point.  I am so depressed.

 :'( Aww...

You know what has always worked for me? And not that I'm some great white hunter, but, I've simply never gone into the woods with expectations. This isn't advice either. Just sharing my hunting system. I clear my head of the pressures that come with looking at it as something I have to accomplish and I (okay, this next part is gonna sound weird) enjoy what I have all around me.

Nature can be more entertaining than television, or dare I say it, reading a good graphic novel most times. 'Course knowing which way the wind is coming at you. Being sure to mask your scent and not dragging a freshly cleaned weapon into the woods is also things I do.

My scanner is presently down right now, or I'd post some previously taken bucks. 'Course, don't get the impression that they just walked out of the woods and said, "Shoot me! I'm yours!" lol   Humpin' hills can be tiring no matter where you're hunting. And frankly as I've gotten older, a deer walking by the front of my camp front porch BEFORE other times of the year is just as exciting.

Sometime remind me to tell you how, at 26yrs of age, while hunting with my Dad, and following his lead; He took a party tag doe and then got us lost. On Thanksgiving. And I dragged that deer all over that piece of deep woods. See... Dad didn't take his compass reading and I looked to him, as I had many years before to know exactly where we were in getting back to the jeep.  Funny feeling thing how you can get turned around with fresh snow coming down.  lol

Don't give up!

Yeah ! That's the spirit!  ;D

I've never hunted black powder. I've been invited before, but the overall cost of getting really into it can be steep. But like anything, it is what you make of it.

Good luck with it, sir.
