So yah! This weekend could have been better.
Our 2 babies have left.
Both in my arms.

Angus (on the left) was 13 & had a weak heart & asthma. He was panting very hard most of the day on friday & since Ceileigh had just almost completely recovered from what we thought might be a cold, we assumed that was what was wrong. Lickie & I talked about taking him to the VCA for some asthma spray & antibiotics  when she got home from work. Right before she came home, he got worse & you could hear fluid in his lungs. We immediately rushed him to the VCA. In the excitement, he collapsed in the truck. We got him breathing & sped down the highway. He let out a 1/2 yelp-1/2 whimper & collapsed. Lickie stopped & got him out of his box & I held him while she drove. After about 2 mins he gave out. I continued giving cpr & m2m for 15 mins or so to the VCA. They tried for 30 mins to resuscitate him, but he wasn't responding. We held him & said our goodbyes. We went home to be w/ our other dog. Ceileigh was fine. She looked around for him a for awhile & sighed & laid down for bed. The next morning, we decided to make an appointment for her to make sure she was ok. Since it was Saturday, the earliest appointment was 3pm. Around noon she started panting real heavy & Lickie got nervous and rushed her in early. xrays were taken and she had an abnormally enlarged heart & some oddities in her lung cavity that might or might not have been pneumonia. They recommended that she be checked in to another VCA that was 24hrs. She had purposely avoided that VCA because of the previous nights trauma of saying goodbye to her little man there. We checked her in & they put her in the oxygen tent & gave her some antibiotics. After a few hours she started responding to treatment & it appeared that she was feeling better. She was happy to see us & gave that little wiggly butt that always happens because she wags her tail too hard. She licked the glass of the oxygen tent where our hands were. They let us hug her goodnight & we told her we would be back the next day. An hour later, we get a call from the VCA that she's gotten dramatically worse & is not responding to anything they were trying & they weren't sure how long she would make it. We went back. After brainstorming what the hell could possibly be going on, we accepted that she might have a few painful hours left since 3 doctors couldn't figure out what was going on & why so aggressively. The choice was left up to us to let it be painless or continue trying. The decision was made & we asked if Ceileigh could pass in the same room that we said goodbye to Angus in. I held Ceileigh as she looked into Lickie's eyes & passed away.
I had them for 2-3yrs. This sucks. I know some people say "but they are just dogs & can be replaced" WHATEVER.
Through it all, I am especially concerned for Lickie. These were her babies. She had them for 13 & 12 yrs. They were going to be put to sleep as puppies because nobody wanted them, but she saved them. She was there through every trial in her life after the Air Force. Bad mariage. bad divorce. near mental breakdown. overbearing guilt tripping mother. They were her life line through it all. Anyway, I know she'll be strong. If anybody wants to send Lickie some good thoughts, her addy is here: http://www.myspace.com/anbheanmorrighan

On the plus side (there's always a plus side  eyebrow3 ), despite her being allergic to cats & us trying to find homes for all of them, @least she has these to come home to...

@least until they're old enough to be seperated & then given to good homes.

On a funny note, I was unable to attend BaltiCon this weekend, but I flew out of Baltimore today. Another con irony.

So how was everybody's weekend?

awwww *hugs*  I am sorry to hear that, and I agree with you on that!  They are not replaceable!!  Last year, Tj's dad put down Angel (Spinger Spaniel).  Angel was Tj's dog and got her when we first started dating.  She ended up bonding to his dad because he was in college a yr after he got her, so she was in our lives for 13 yrs.  Even though she did bite 2 of our kids she did stay with, we would just be really watchful over her and the kids, but it was hard putting her down.

Feeling guilty and seeing his dad sad because he lost his dog (due to old age) and we had our hyper active rat terrier Ace which tj's dad use to have, we gave Ace to Dad so he had something to come home. (Tj's mom still lives in MN because she has a good job there and his dad didnt want to uproot her again when he first came out to be a principal here in WI 10 yrs ago.)  So we vist Ace because Ace was very jealous of Dom and was getting nippy with Dom so that is the other reason we gave him to Dad.  Now we just have fish.

Delvie, I'm so sorry to hear that.  *hugs to you and Lickie.*
I guess I shouldn't have read this at work.  People'll wonder why I have tears in my eyes.  Seriously.
I don't have a mySpace so please send my regards to Lickie.

*hugs kitties*

 sorry
Oh that is oh so sad news. I just visited an animal care center to look for a playmate for ShiAna, and felt so sad to see the dogs there. They had such personality, that it is such a shame to see that for whatever reason they were there. For Lickie to lose her babies after so long must be very hard for her, also for you. I pray that time will mend the hurt. Take care.

Sad news indeed.  I can fully appreciate, as I put down Socrates about a year and a half ago.  We had him for 15 years, and rather than him being a pet for my son, my son was "his boy".  I found a nice beer stein decorated with labs, and that is the final resting place for his ashes.  That way he will always be around for us.
My heart goes out to Lickie, and an extra line will be included in tonight's full prayer list.

Delvie, we are so sorry to hear about your dogs.  We are huge dog lovers and know how horrible it is to lose one of your babies let alone two in the same weekend.  They are part of your family and are completely irreplaceable.  Love and sympathy to both you and Lickie.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the kind thoughts. Today is Lickie's 1st day back to work since the entire thing happened. I'm thinking she's ok. Yesterday was rough for her because I couldn't be there for her to tell her everything's ok. Yesterday, she was in that self doubt stage where she wondered if she loved them enough & was there something she did to cause it. Hopefully, that's passed. Myself, I don't quite view death the same as her & I'm really quite fine. I know they'll visit me in my dreams & perhaps when I meditate, yada yada.

I can understand what Lickie is going through!  We had a Boxer that had tumors and Mange, she was really sick and we did everything we could and the vet said there was nothing more we could do to make her better.  Her name was Macy and she was my dog, well Ace was mine too, and our vet said even though she is 2, she will be on meds for the rest of her life and was predicting 6 months for her to live.  I wanted to put her down, but since we got her from a Boxer rescue, we had a contract that said we couldnt put her down and had to give her back to them.  We did that but my heart was pulling because I knew they were going to keep her alive and not let her go peacefully.  I dont know how long she lived but it killed me to know that she was suffering and nothing could be done, I felt that was so wrong for her.  My mom said I should of been a vet, I was always bringing home animals, but I get attatched to fast :)

Kookey & I are doing an expirament that sketch cover fans will love.
The reason for the expirament is
for me: I love his work & think he's the artist to do it &
for him: it is a chance to expirament w/ different characters as well as to bring him & his work more recognition.
We've already posted a few of the sketch covers & he just sent me scans of some more that he's expiramented w/.

I don't know how much of my reaction for this 1st one was from a sugar overdose or actual amusement. I couldn't look @ it all @ once I was laughing so hard. I would look @ one of the darklings & LMAO & then I'd notice the next one & start all over again. It took about 4 mins to even realize Shi was in it because I was laughing so hard. I even had to walk away from the computer when I seen the darkling wearing a halo. I hope you guys like it as much as I do.

I was actually thinking of  The Brady Bunch, but naming it the Bowman Bunch. But I'm glad you like it. I really like how a few of the Darklings turned out. My youngest really liked them too, and was quite amazed when I told him that I drew it. So I showed him the actual comic. Now THAT is a great compliment!

I actually thought that you were going to post a different cover.

I took an excursion to Goblin Valley in Utah, yesterday (in other words, I was supposed to be working, but left the crew alone for a few hours). This place was awesome. I could picture myself w/ a stone dome home in the center of something like this. Not... that that... would be wierd... or anything.

I took almost 600 11x17 pics of it. I wish I had had another couple of memory sticks & a lot more time. Here are 12 that have been resized to 650 to accommodate smaller screens. If anybody wants to see more, pm me.

Enjoy...

THE GUARDIANS

(notice the people in the center to give a clue the size of these things)

even the plant life looks alien...

Hope you like.

Any of you scifi fans might remember this location.

Wow, what a bizzare landscape.  I'm thinking Galaxy Quest as for the movie referance.
Love the Tomb Raider, way too much.

Yup. Galaxy Quest.

I was thinking the title "Rock! Rock! Rock! Rock!" would give it away. But then again, if anybody knew what my head was thinking of, they'd already recognize the landscape anyway... like you did...  eyebrow3
