I thought I should update this.

Well. In true form, 3 weeks after the con, I am in Cali. Well. Usually it's a few days, not weeks. O.C. to be specific. It's rather a miracle that I made the flight. I arrived @ the Dayton Airport Long Term Parking Lot 35 mins before my flight took off. W/in 15mins I was ticketed, through security & @ my gate.
The other day I flew out of Savannah to get back to Buffalo & arrived 4hrs early because the UK Terrorists had been nabbed 2 days before & I thought security would be a nightmare. Surprise. Not only were there NO LINES, but not a single person was going through security. Just me. I dropped off my rental car, got my ticket & was @ my gate waiting for my flight in under 10 mins. Surprise, flight delayed an hr so I actually ended up there 5hrs too early. As much as we pay for airline fares, why the F does it cost $7 a day to use the wireless internet in airports. It's free in hotels, why not the airports?

Lickie's grandmother is no longer w/ us in corporal form. That was pretty devastating to Lickie & last couple of weeks has been horrible for Lickie. She's much better now & things are back to normal. Even her mother who is normally a self centered B****, but took a break for a few weeks stopped being nice once again. S'ok. Atleast she got to say goodbye to her grandmother in person & her mommy was her best friend for 3 wks. The show must go on.  ;)

Anyway. I'm in the O.C. for a couple of days. Pretty balls to the walls while I'm here, but I hope to get some sightseeing in. Even if I have to get up @ 5am & go sit on Laguna bch for awhile before work. There was a cool John Wayne Statue in the airport I flew into. I was impressed that they would honor BJ that way. Then, as I was leaving the airport, I learned that what my flight info had been calling the Orange County Airport was, in fact, The John Wayne Airport. Who knew? LOL

Laters.

Sorry to hear about Lickie's grandmother and I am glad everything is back to normal.

When we stopped at the ghost town of where my mother lives and tj's parents live, I was visiting with my mother when she told, "I have to tell you something and I didn't want to tell you before you left for vacation."  Granted, I still had several days off and we were heading back to Brew City (go back to work today, school starts in a week and then in 2 weeks for me)  But she told me that they found two noduels on my Grandma's lungs and she has to go in for a biopsy and a cat scan, so now I sit and wait for the news.

Sorry to hear that. ((((((((((HUGS)))))))))

It didn't come as any surprise. Ruthie refused treatment. When the doctor talked about medicine she said "Why? I'm 93 yrs old. Give it to someone who needs it. I'm tired & I'm happy. I'd rather go now." She passed giddy & on morphine. She said she had never had morphine before. She loved the stuff. LOL

Again, sorry to hear that & I hope for the best. ((((((((((HUGS to you guys)))))))))

On a slightly different note;

got a calll from my best friend, Sheryl, this morning @ 5am. She said that she was flying to LA tomorrow & her & the girls have the rest of the day off. She arrives @ noon. My return flight to Dayton leaves tomorrow @ 12:59pm. Oh well.

Morphine and good barbeque sauce affect me the same way.  It numbs my head from temples back to the very back of my head - I think my brain also.

My wife was on morphine once after abdominal surgery (split open sternum to pelvic bones).  She was doing leg lifts like she was back in high school gym.
Don't know what it is with the forum's family members nowdays.  I got word today that my dad has gall stones, and cysts on both his kidneys & liver.

Thanks Delvie.  Dad doesn't think there is any problem, so he'll go ahead and get a few more tests done before they decide what, if anything, to do.  He hates being on painkillers, and they make him see things that don't exist. (When he had his knee replaced, he saw a dog in the recovery room giving birth to pups, and the doctor walk out of the room into a room that was filled wall-to-wall with naked heavy-set women on their hands and knees.)  He gets off of them as quickly as he can, luckily he has a high level of tolerance for pain.

So, what does that tell me about my dad?  That he likes heavy-set naked women down on all fours?  Where does the dog giving birth come in?  Trust me, these were two of the more lucid things he saw.

I am sure Tj has plenty of those stories being that he is a RN in a MRICU.  He tells me more about some of the familes that come in and how he has be a person to settle family fueds.  For him it frustrates him because it takes him away from taking care of his patient

Sounds like a naked pilates class with Richard Simmons up-front leading the fatties.

I was looking @ the SkyMall magazine today & saw a home cotton candy machine. Must resist!

I recently bought my best friend a Fondue Fountain for her birthday. It was tough not to buy 2.

I've got a question for you collectors out there. Has this ever happened to you?

Last week I had bid on a Ray Lago painting & preliminary

& w/ less than a day to go before the end of the auction & myself being the only bidder @ $300 the dealer cancels the auction. A few days later, he relists the 2 pieces starting @ $400 w/ more information for longer auction time. This time there are many bidders & the price ends @ $1,250. Still a little peaved about the entire ordeal. Has anybody else ever had an auction canceled on them & then the item relisted @ a higher price a couple of days later? I realize that the art belonged to the seller & it's his prerogative what he does w/ it, but damn.

<Delvie sulks off> LOL

Delvie  I saw that cheap trick. you can make a complaint to ebay. but what good would that do. did you read how lago sent him an email BS I say. if I remember right the 300 auction was going to end mid day on a tuesday to boot. it almost makes you want to make up a phoney bidder and mess with the guy just to teach him a lession

Sounds like a bad deal.  $1200 plus for a painting is a good amount.  Prices are so hard to determine. Sounds  like $300 would have been a steal.

Saw the painting after the relist, and followed it to see what wound happen, since the price was already beyond what I could pay.
I had a similar thing happen, I was bidding on a huge set of cards (which had some Shi cards listed), something like 16 binders worth.  I was the high bidder with less than a day left when I saw that it was pulled off e-bay.  I admit that my bid was a steal, but I figured with the shipping fees that they would stand to make a little something.  No recourse for me, so I didn't make too much of a stink.
I love Ray Lago's work, and you definitely would have had a steal at $300.  Sorry this jerk pulled the rug out on you.

Yup. I know $300 would have been a steal. I've not had much luck acquiring Lago paintings. Something always seems to go bonkers.

I would recommend complaining to ebay, but experience as a powerseller has taught me that they do not give a crap as long as they make money and since it sold for more they will make even more money. I have had auctions cancelled on numerous things throughout the 10 years we have been on ebay and everytime they say that it is the seller's discretion to cancel the auction so long as there are more than 12 hours to go. I once had to cancel an auction but it was because the item was damaged and unsaleable and I did it with 5 days left on the item.

Thanks. I figured just a lesson learned. There are 2 dealers that always seem to pull stuff like this. Unfortunately, they both have choice Shi art.

Normally, there is a distinct irony that just after a con ends or just before a con begins, I am working in the area & am shipped out w/in days to a a week or two of the con. This week was the closest I've been. I was so close I could taste it. While the con was happening in Baltimore, I was working on the southside of DC on an emergency pr job. This pr job halted an inspection that I was actually headed to work on in SC. So anyway, I'm headed down to SC Sat night & I get a call about midnight telling me that the job actually isn't ready... so I think - COOL! I can go to the con on sunday & drive all night to get to SC for monday morn. I arrive @ home @ 3am Sat night & we go to bed @ 4am. Surprise. The dogs are barking to go outside & it's 12:30pm. PHOOEY! I get things ready & start driving @ 4:45pm towards SC. SO CLOSE! Perhaps I don't exist.

On a slightly different note, I've discovered my hero's achilles heal. Who would have thought that someone who could draw the human body so beautifully & flawlessly could have drawn a blank. I won't say what it is, but I'll just finish this installment w/ "MOOOOOOOOOO!"
