Title: Miki Valentine's Sketch Pad [Updated 2/28]
Post by: MikiValentine on Tue, October 6, 2009, 21:56:28
Instead of giving any more excuses I'm opening this thread to house any work I want to share with everyone here.

The first is a digital painting of Shi [Work In Progress]

Let me know what you think!

Really killer! I think the face and make-up are spot on. It also has a nice sense of movement.

Reminds me of the women in the music video "Simply Irrestistable!"
If it all turns out as well as the face, you have a winner.

Thanks everyone for your kind words! This is an experiment using the Wacom brushes in PhotoShop Elements. I was going for an 80s vibe so the Palmer girls resemblance is intentional. I'll be posting more of my other work in a bit.

What??? I Don't SEE Anything!  Must be going computer blind.  (My mother always warned me about this possibility.)

Nice renditions.  The Joker looks cool and calculating, less a pscyopath than he's been lately.  Your Catwoman makes me want to do bad things with her.  The rest of the cast looks good, but I'd like to see some of the characters' body shapes differ, get a more varied look to some of these, not every female character can look as if she works the catwalk for a day job.

DUDE!!! How much of that is computer & how much pen/graphite & paper?  That Batgirl looks awesome & would look damned cool on a Batman cover, as would Robin & Quinn.

This Batman is the Shtt!

I wish I had an abundance of Batman Blanks. Unfortunately, I only have 1. I need a contact in Germany to help me find more.

If I had 5 besides the 1 Kookey's going to take a crack @, I'd have you do your revamp of Bman, Quinn, Bgirl, Robin & Catgirl on them. I've been watching my fellow collectors show off their Batmans & had to keep my mouth shut. I told Kookey I want to make them jealous. That would be awesome if I could find 5 more & show off yours & his @ the same time.

Thanks so much Delvie, haven't heard from you in ages; how are you bro?!

To answer your question, everything you see here is done 100% digitally using Corel Painter and Corel Sketchbook. Scanning pencil/pen work has become too cumbersome and I find the ability to work in non-destructive layers has helped me to grow as an artist and experiment more freely. I still do keep physical sketchbooks to jot stuff down, but all of the art I show online is done using my Wacom Tablet and software.

And just me know when you want me to do something for you again. I'd be more than happy to give you something kick-ass to make other collectors jealous ;-p

More art and some prints on DeviantArt coming up. Make sure to check my page as things move along. You can find it here:

Love to see this in color.  I'd like to see the coloring on the make-up and tattoo, and the detail in the clothing.

I did!! Someday I hope to find some cash lying around so I can get a Hot Mummy (http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryRoom.asp?GSub=56147) from you as well as from Kiki/Brad!!!

It's funny you mention that because I have some old line art of a mummy I did on my computer. The idea was for a DVD menu I wanted to make. I ended up using Patricia Fields's model Giselle as reference for this vampire mummy.

It's not as "sexy" as most of the other works on the site you linked to, but I though you'd at least find it interesting.

Thanks Delvie! I just fixed it. The problem was I forgot to make the file low-res as the site doesn't allow the hot-linking of huge files. Everyone should be able to see it now. Let me know what you guys think!

I don't know. Maybe if I saw a color rendering, I might see something that I'm missing. Personally, I like your 1st attempt @ her much more. I like how the glasses are part of the suit. I like seeing her face. In this one, she seems too "Alien-ish" or "Undead-ish" for my tastes. I really thought you knocked it out of the ballpark w/ your 1st concept.

Thanks Delvie. The decision to change the design was based on too much of her face being exposed and the mouthpiece resembling a retainer.

With this concept, I'm going for a more demonic look. The half-mask also resembles a bat being wrapped around her chin and references the masks of samurai.

The mouthpiece functions as air filtration and alters the pitch of her voice to a robotic hiss. It' also emanates light from her fanged mouth to scare the shit out of people. The pieces that cover her eyes drop down from the sides and in conjunction with the mirrored contact lenses she wears gives her "terminator vision." It also glows against her skin.

I realize it's not as sexy as the previous version and it will probably go through another revision, but I think that it wont deviate too much from this one because I really like it.

Below are two colored versions to give you a better sense of it like you asked, one without and with the visors:

Let me know if this changes how you feel at all.

You need to right click the x and click the bottom ("details" I think - using bbry right now) when details come up, c/p address into your browser. You can also quote his post and c/p the pic url to the browser.

Pain, I know, but worth it. Do it enough times from enough forums and it becomes 2nd nature like logging in some place.

Had to go about it a little differently with my system, but got it all the same.

Nice drawing.  Love the heart-shaped eye patch, and the red matching her hair.  Nice pose.  Not familiar with the character, but that's okay, 'cause Miki did another good picture.

Optimized the image so it should be fixed now. Molotov is a Russian spy who has an interesting relationship with one of the main characters from the Venture Bros. cartoon.
