Publisher to Give Away Classic Carl Barks Comic as a Silver Sponsor
The Free Comic Book Day Committee is pleased to announce that Gemstone Publishing has joined the comic book industry's Free Comic Book Day initiative as a Silver Sponsor. Its title? None other than Walt Disney's Donald Duck Adventures!
More than fifty years ago, Boys and Girls March of Comics released a shoe store giveaway comic book that featured Carl Barks' now-classic Donald Duck adventure, "Maharajah Donald." The people who acquired that free comic book didn't realize it at the time, but it was destined to become one of the most valuable and sought-after collectibles in today's market.
Gemstone recently acquired the license to publish Disney comics, and has decided to kick off its new line of Disney comic books with "Maharajah Donald" as its offering for Free Comic Book Day. If you were to buy a mint copy of the original book now, it would cost you more than $7,000.00, as listed in the latest edition of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, but this is your opportunity to own it for the original cover price: NOTHING!
Also included is the original two-page back-up story, "The Peaceful Hills" and the original March of Comics front cover, which is reprinted on the back cover of the Gemstone giveaway.
