Just watched it. I really enjoyed it. Though I wasn't fond about the acting of a couple characters. I wonder what will happen now that Anakin is Darth Vader.

I agree with Kiku that the acting was off for a few characters. The special effects were terrific! The marriage and having kids was not believable. The jedi fight sequences were worth the price of the movie. I was left with the question as to why the new Darth Vader trusted automatically anything the emporer had to say.

But the marriage happened at the end of the last movie...

I don't think it is as much the fault of the acting as it is the writing. On the other hand, the dialog was never meant to inspire... the technology was.

See, I think it's not particular one bad or good element. I think the Star Wars films are all amazing because of one factor: the final products are better than the sum of their individual parts. The acting is wooden, except by Obi Wan, in all the films. The dialogue is goofy in all the films. The direction is seemingly uninspired in the Lucas-directed installments (okay, all of them except Empire, directed by Irvin Kirschner). Yet... The component parts come together and form something greater than the sum of their parts. They turn into something magnificent, something that changed my life. I admit I get a little bent out of shape when I hear someone talking about the clunky acting in I - III, as if the acting wasn't clunky in the first one. So many adults saw the first one as children, saw Episode I as adults, and yet they believe they're evaluating the films in the same manner. The story itself, while simple, is very strong, and that's where the appeal comes from. The technology has always been window dressing. In my estimation, for what it's worth, that's where the power comes from. And strangely enough, that goes back to Lucas, who we're all quick to point out as not that great a writer or director. So, we're probably just about as wrong as his bank account is big. ;)

Wel done JCV.
But I still think Lucas painted himself in a corner by calling "A New Hope" Episode 4. From what I recall reading back in the day, no one (Lucas included) expected Star Wars to spawn any sequals let alone a world changing phenom. So I believe from Episodes 1-3 that when he concieved the saga, old Georgie didn't quite have the others mapped out, but also refused (in mho) desperately needed assistance from the outside.
I give the film a major thumbs up, though the terrible screenwriting and soap-operatic pauses and cuts really bogged most of the pic down for me.

Episode IV wasn't called Episode IV when it was first released. It didn't have that tag on it until Empire was announced.

:D Hello everyone I the Frankster has seen Episode III hours ago for the 1st time and all I can say is WOW!!! I saw it at the Ziegfeld which is the next best thing to the IMAX. and I have to agree with many of you about the acting. Anakin acts like a wussy in eps II & III and Natalie Portman was not convincing, but I'm gonna have to agree with you about Obi-Wan. I wasnt really a Star Wars fan ever I saw epsiode I in theatres and i tried to get into the other but i Just couldnt & then I heard Non-Star Wars fans likeing ep III so when Episode II was on Fox last week i caught it so I was able to see episode III. & Now i can watch the rest of the saga in chronilogical order. I always was never into these space sci-fi sagas especially not Star Trek (sorry JCV) but part of me has always wanted to see Star Wars and get into it now I finally can.

Hey, I like original Star Trek. I borderline hate most of the later stuff (I like DS9, to be honest).

BoxOfficeMojo.com estimates that as of 5/30 the film has taken in $271,193,000 in US domestic box office alone.
Add in roughly $248,000,000 more world-wide, and the film is over half a billion dollars in less than two weeks.
Wow!

By the way, aside from the fact that I love the movies, here's why I'm so interested in how Star Wars does:
I'm a writer because of the first movie.
Walked out of the darkened theater, the clouds parted, the radiant sun shot down crystaline light, the angels sang, and I knew I was going to be a writer.
Didn't want to write Star Wars type stuff, but wanted to entertain people.
So, you didn't ask, but there's the answer.
