Reason why I'm asking is I'm looking for scenes in an upcoming horror/comic. Action wise it's the final duel in "Sanjuro." For me at least. Emotional, perhaps the silent shot in "Seven Samurai" of the four sword bearing graves silloueted against a bleak skyline. I know these might be too obvious, but they still come to mind the fastest. Impressive.

I don't know if you want a still shot or sequence, but one that comes to mind is very modern. It's from "The Hunted" with Cristopher Lambert. There is a scene in which a Samurai takes care of a train full of Ninja. Some of the poses the Samurai holds after disembowling some of the Ninja are really dramatic looking. Just watch the movie and you will see what I am talking about. The movie itself is not the best ever, but is entertaining. There are also some scenes of Joan Chen in a hottub, disrobing, that would translate well into a Shi image.
That final scene in Sanjuro is mindblowing.

You won't find anything under Kurasawa. Kur osawa, on the other hand, might give you a few more results. ;) </picky>

Honestly, the greatest samurai scenes for me weren't in the fighting. Usually, when I am watching fighting movies such as Rockys, The Last Samurai, etc, it is the training scenes that get me pumped the most. In Rocky, it was the training scenes such as his training in the USSR as well as Dolph's. In The Last Samurai, it was the suburito training that had me awed. In The Perfect Weapon, it was Jeff Speakman performing his Katas. In Hard To Kill, it was Steven Segal's rehabilitation from being in a coma. In Only the Strong, I found the scenes where Mark Dacascos was instructing his students in Capoeira far more inspiring than the actual fights.
If you are looking for fight scenes, I enjoyed several of the melees in "The Hunted."
BUT
While I enjoy a good sword fight scene, by far the best samurai scene in a movie for me goes hands down to a simple little B-Rated movie called "American Samurai." The movie for the most part has the usual David Bradley "can't act scripts" & uses the old worn out "stepbrothers who become mortal enemies because of jealousy of father's attention" plot. While Mark Dacascos is awesome w/ weapons, he is supposed to be the pure blood Japanese brother. Those down-points aside, the final 3rd of the movie ends up in sort of an Ultimate Fighting Championship with bladed weapons and no referees which is pretty cool.
My favorite samurai scenes were the training that the father gave his 2 sons & most importantly, the final fight between Mark & David. Not the fighting itself, but rather the proper respect & sword etiquette that they both demonstrated. It is a rare thing to see warriors bowing in reverence to their sword in a movie... & somewhat ironic that it takes place in a super B-Rated movie.

Delvie,
Mark Dacascos trains at my Wushu school here in L.A. and yes, he is a damn good martial artist.
I wish I had his flexibility. My hips just won't open up the way I'd like. Guess that's what you get for starting late in life.

I've always been a fan of his. I think Only The Strong was the 1st time I saw him. I was already a fan of Capoeira. Then, when Crow:Stairway To Heaven came out, that cemented him as one of my fav actor/martial artists

Greatest Samurai Scene would be from the Japanese film, The Twilight Samurai. At the end of the movie, this low ranking Samurai has to fight a rogue Ronin Samurai to the death. It matches the Twilight Samurai's short sword skills against the long sword skills of the Ronin. A great dramatic film with great action scenes. The best Japanese film I have watched.

I like the fight scene in Lone Wolf and Cub at the end of the DVD when he cuts the man's neck making it whistle.

If you guys are interested in samurai stuff in movies...
I'd like to suggest renting the "Shogun"-miniseries that ran on NBC in the early 1980's.
I haven't seen it in a while (it might seem a bit dated), but "Shogun" was one of the few medieval japanese stories that focused more on the political background concerning medieval japan and not so much the hack 'n slash that you see in most hollywood adaptations. At the very least, the original book "Shogun" (by James Clavell) is an OUTSTANDING read.
Similarly, "Ran" and any other Akira Kurosawa-films are always excellent choices.

I can accept people misspelling names every now and then, Neesheekoh. Thats an honest mistake. Its when people mix up "your" and "you're" that I go bonkers. I don't understand why thats so difficult to remember. ;)

You know, to this day, that comment still bothers me. It wasn't if I had mispelled it on purpose. Believe me, I have spelled Mr. Kurosawas name so many times, as I frequently look on e-bay for movies that he has directed. I do believe the response that I received was pretty harsh.
