I'm an interested observer. I'm not familiar w/ Sin City (not his anyway) but all the big names in the movie, I would hope it's not a let down.

Is it going to be a winner? Anyone a Frank Miller fan out here? Huge SIN CITY fan (formerly a Frank Miller fan across the board, but DK2 took care of that). Huge Robert Rodriguez fan, too. Man, I SO want this movie to be good. I'm actually getting more and more upbeat about it as we go... I was pretty nervous about it a few months ago. You know, the kind of nervous you get when it's stories you love and you just don't know how the movie is gonna do? That kind of nervous. Well, lately I'm getting pretty sure it's gonna be good.

Joe - The movie is based on three of the books - Volumes 1, 3 & 4. The original story and That Yellow Bastard are my favorites, though #2, "A Dame To Kill For" is AWESOME. Check 'em out. JCV

From SCOOP: Dark Horse Comics; $17.00 When Frank Miller started out his first Sin City story, he had it planned as a 48-page one-shot. The rough-and-tumble crime noir story got away from him, though, and ended up as the first in a series of graphic novels. Originally simply entitled Sin City, Miller has added a subtitle - "The Hard Goodbye" - to that first story, which has been reissued with the others books in the series to promote the upcoming film. For those lucky enough to be discovering the book for the first time, The Hard Goodbye introduces not only the highly stylized setting of Basin City, but also its iconic denizens. Steeped in the mystique of Hammett, Chandler and most importantly Spillane, Sin City's not-so-bright tough guy lead character, Marv, blew the hinges off the superheroes-only club when the book was first released and one read will convince you that the work stands up well to the test of time. Not intended for children, of course, but a heck of a ride. From SCOOP: Dark Horse Comics; $17.00 The re-release of Frank Miller's Sin City continues apace with the build up to the film version of his stark, steamy graphic novels. While A Dame To Kill For is not one of the three books that are combined in the upcoming movie, it does introduce us to Dwight McCarthy, who is one of the film's main characters. Dwight is a guy desperately struggling to maintain his newfound control, but it's Sin City, so you know that's not going to last. While he wants to escape his past, it comes looking for him in the form of the beautiful, treacherous Ava. From SCOOP: The delicate truce between the mob, the cops and the working girls of Sin City's Old Town may be shattered by one body too many. The death of a crooked cop may be just the catalyst needed to plunge Sin City into a bloody turf war. Can Dwight McCarthy and a heavily armed band of beauties survive? It's Sin City, so just about anything can happen... and usually does. From SCOOP: Sin City: That Yellow Bastard is the story of John Hartigan, an honest cop a mere hour away from early retirement after thirty-odd years on the force. He's just got one more thing to do. Nancy Callahan, an 11-year-old girl, has been kidnapped by a real psycho, and Hartigan's going to bring him in. Only this is Sin City, where everyone has connections. This is the toughest, most-gripping, and in many ways the best Sin City saga to date. Originally published in 1996 and 1997 as a six-issue mini-series, it is one of the three tales being adapted into the movie (Bruce Willis plays Hartigan). From SCOOP: Sin City: Family Values is the only one of Frank Miller's Sin City trade paperbacks that was conceived and released originally as an original graphic novel, as opposed to collecting previously published chapters in trade paperback form. It's also the least compelling of the lot. That doesn't mean it's bad - it's fun and has many of the hallmark Sin City moments - but that it has always felt like it was a short story stretched into something longer than it should have been. It's not one of the component parts of the new movie, but it is definitely part of the noir world Miller created. If you love the others, you practically have to have this one.

I have such high hopes for this flick. It really would be nice to have a comic movie from someone other than the big 2 that is a great film. I really like the style I've seen in the previews and talk show promos, much like the comic. The cast is big names, and that should pull in big box office. I really want to see the film, but don't want to go alone. My wife doesn't do violent movies, and my son is WAY to young for this movie. Let's see some fan reviews here, okay? Appreciate the help and insight of others.

Wow!While not for everyone -- violence, nudity, language, etc -- this is a high octaine excursion into Frank Miller's SIN CITY. The film is beautiful and the backgrounds are the best CG work I've ever seen. The performances were roundly good or better. I'll try to post with more details and a more thorough review later. If you liked the comics, though, I think you'll really like the film. I know Miller co-wrote and co-directed, but the level of faithfulness to the comics is frankly stunning. (Billy, maybe try telling your Hollywood people to purchase a ticket to this film ALONG WITH A #@%* CLUE and do SHI the right way).

Behind the scenes... Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez, and Brittany Murphy: From the film's opening sequence: From the segment for THAT YELLOW BASTARD, which is probably my favorite SIN CITY story (at least right now, ask again later):

Speaking of pimping, how about that Jessica Alba. Her dancing...maybe I should just leave it at that.

Whether people love it or hate it, I think it's obviously the most faithful comic book adaptation ever. I really wonder what the non-comics crowd will think, but I'm sure that fans of the comic will love it.

My daughter is 16 and wants to see it badly. She loves the monochrome color scheme. Normally she just watches anime.

The film work is massively cool. Audience-wise, if you're daughter is pretty mature there shouldn't be any problem with the violence and adult content. If it had been color, it would have been over the top.

She is 16 going on 40, so no problem.

Just saw it today. Great characters. Not enough of Alba dancing. Good use of white, yellow and red in the movie. Frank Miller as the priest was a nice touch. I guess he fashions himself another Stan Lee, and must participate in the movie.

Deborah and I just came back from seeing the film. I thought it was a technological masterpiece and that Willis, Alba, Rourke and DeToro were wonderful!
Only problem I had was with one of my favorite stories " The Big Fat Kill." I don't think they needed it in the film and that the overall picture would have been better with the interweaving stories of "Marv" and "That Yellow Bastard."
Looking forward to seeing it again!
