Bob Layton gave a fairly interesting interview to the ICv2 site about Future Comics, his new line.

http://www.icv2.com/articles/home/2141.html

I'd be curious to hear if other Crusade fans had heard of this line, if so - what they thought of it, and if they'd read any of the books so far.

Let me know! :o

If anyone has ever seen any of the Valiant books, it should be perfectly clear that Bob Layton is the last person on earth to be commenting on the coloring of comic books.  This guy has no artistic taste or integrity what so ever.

Did you mean the ACCLAIM Comics stuff or the VALIANT comics stuff?
Because I'll give you that the coloring on the ACCLAIM stuff was bad.  Characters were constantly being colored as each other to the point that some of the titles were almost unreadable.

As for Valiant, I really felt that many of their titles were a step forward in comic colors for the time period.
Granted, not everything worked...The "Valiant Vision" coloring process that allowed the 3D effect to work made those issues.....well, 'vibrant' but not in a good way!
Most of the BWS stuff was very pretty.  (although often people had blue faces, now that I think about it...maybe there was lots of mood lighting...)

I'm sorry Weldon, but I must dissagree.  I was speaking of the Valiant stuff.   I don' t think that Mr. Layton as any tastes whatsoever.   I felt that the Acclaim coloring was a little better, but I still can't stand to look at them.   Ditto on J.C.'s welcome, Mr. Adams.  We've been having some fun on these boards.

What do you think of our esteemed chap from Pittsburgh or Houston or Maryland (or where ever the hell he's from!)

JCV here -- on Kevin's computer -- Billy, if you ever suggest I'm from Houston again I'll start telling people you're from New Jersey.

Don't mess with the bull, young man. You'll get the horns.

Well, that is certainly two different topics...
We will have to agree to dissagree on the Valiant books.  I think that they are remembered badly enough as it is from just the bad PR they got when the Speculators left the market in a great big bus.

As for what I think of Mr.JC Vaughn....
Well, he is probably the most trustworthy, loyal and true a human being that has ever sucked AIR.
There was once a man in St. Louis who had been suffering from horrible sores on his face and hands.  He asked Mr. Vaughn what he should to about it.  Mr. Vaughn told him to go take a hike.  So the man began hiking across America.  He hiked from city to city until he ended up in Chicago.  After that much physical exertion, his sores cleared up on the next few days.  Mr. Vaughn even showed up one day with a complete change of clothes for the man, as his were worn from the many days of traveling.  The man was very happy that he had taken Mr. Vaughn's advice.

(There is a very strong chance that the preceeding story is entirely fictional.)

Oh but it sounds so truthful.

Mr. Vaughn has given me such advice many, many times, and now I will listen, and take that long needed hike.

Haven't gotten that issue from my local crack dealer...ur...comic dealer.
I did order the first one and Metalix directly from Future Comics AND from 3-D's shop.  But intend on getting the rest just from 3-D's.
I liked Metalix quite a bit.
Interesting concept.

Picked up FREEMIND #3 and METALLIX #2. I've got to say that I think the cover for FREEMIND #4 is quite striking.

Make sure they're either talking to Diamond or Future Comics. DCD has Freemind #0-3 and Metallix #1-2.

From NEWSARAMA/Press Release...

http://www.newsarama.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000239

Press Release

Future Comics announced today that his company will be converting all of their current titles to a twenty-two page format beginning with their June cover dated books (on sale in May).

The new format will continue to be printed with the same high-quality paper and card stock cover that has been the trademark of the Future Comics line, but the line will retail at a reduced price of $2.99.

When asked about the decision to change their books' format, Editor-In-Chief Bob Layton responded by saying, "When we polled our retail customers concerning what changes they would like to see in our line, the number one response was that they would like us to sell the product at a lower price point.

Although we gave the readers more story for their money, the higher price was a deterrent for many of the retailers' customers. We've prided ourselves on customer service and genuinely listening to the demands of our support base. Therefore, the decision to roll back our prices wasn't a hard one."

The new $2.99 June cover dated books include METALLIX #6, FREEMIND #7 and DEATHMASK #3.

I'm caught up on them now.
Glad to see the price come down for obvious reasons.
I don't mind paying a fair price for a quality product, however.
I sometimes get caught up in the 'Comics cost SO MUCH!' line of thought.
Then I remember what a paperback book costs.
Both comics and paperbacks used to be the same price...
10 cents.
Given that perspective I feel lucky that all comics are not  $7.95 now.
