Billy, do you have any time for free drawing? Or is all your drawing time dedicated to Shi comics? I was just wondering if you took the time draw anything else not related to your comics. What about some Marvel or DC characters? Or any other characters for that matter? If you do, could you take the time to post them for our enjoyment? I think it would be cool to see your renditions of todays hot characters.

Billy does a mean Daredevil.
I think he would kick ass on Elektra if he tried.

Hey there Kiki-sama!

I'd love to do another character, but really don't want anyone else to draw Shi at the moment.  I would like to do another crossover after Ju-Nen but also believe that Shi fans would be pretty pissed if I spent my time and energy doing another character, at least for the next year.  I think I had a nice opportunity to take on a fun Spider-Man project 5 years ago when Shi was coming out monthly feel I should do at least another mini-series and perhaps a crossover before taking on another character.  There's also the financial aspects to look at.  If I do Shi I would get a better royalty (through Dark Horse) or all (through Crusade) monies than if I did the X-Men.  But I would really love to do DareDevil again and have a great story (thanks for the compliment Joe) but we'll see if I can get my crap together, bang out another four issue miniseries  after Ju-Nen then jump on a fill in issue (like Frank Cho did with Spider-Man) that would be a hoot!

You know, there are certain things you could do as Shi/Crusade projects that the artwork is already complete for, it would just require some re-adjusting of formats here & there. This would free up some time to play w/ other characters while still producing desired Shi products. I & others certainly would love new Shi material, but as a collector, these would be cool too & the artwork is already complete.

  • After all 12 of the 10th Anniversary WOTWs are released, you could reformat all of them into a WOTW 1-12 Collected Hardback

  • You are missing Ashcans for WOTW 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. Perhaps, if the b/w artwork already exists on cells or computer, you could release the ashcans for these.

  • Illustrated Warrior Combined Hardback Novel - You have all the artwork & story already.

  •  Illustrated Warrior Portfolio Paperback

  • Illustrated Warrior 7 issue Collage Cover Set (or box set) All issues are already drawn, just need to reprint the covers.

  • Illustated Warrior Collectors Cards - You already have all the artwork. You can release all the b/w pictures as the regular cards & the covers as the chase cards.

  • Shi Covers Card Set - Presumably you have "most" of the pics on file to do this. I also have a disc for you w/ all covers missing from your website.
                                     # Tour Book Cover Clear Cards
                                     # Magazine Cover Chase Sets

  • Tomoe Combined Timeline TPB

  • Tora No Shi & Heaven & Earth Combined Edit'n

  • Glow in the Dark Covers??
[/color]

Just thinking aloud. These are some of the things that you could put out in the next year or two that wouldn't require any new storylines or Artwork (unless you wanted to make new art for the covers). Granted, I don't know how much work would be involved in reformatting, but surely not as much as drawing, writing & formatting. You could even mix it in between the releases of the next mini-series giving you more time to produce each issue.

I do agree with Joe about your Dare-Devil, but what I mean is , do you just draw anybody else for FUN? You know, in your sketchbook, just to shake things up a little. I, personally, don't want anyone else doing Shi right now either.
Also, Delvie has some great suggestions too. He seems to be an un-official partner, or at least he should be.

Why, thank you for noticing. My Lickie (a stylist/critic) has convinced me that the dark brooding warrior look is so yesterday & that I should be much more polyanic. So I'm a lot less Bob Goldthwait now & much more Robin Williams.

;)

But enough about me & more about Shi...

This is not a very good picture but my digital camera is broken so I used one on file. It isn't actually a Tourbook but rather a 1/8th" thick foam backed promotional poster (3'X5'?) that Billy sketched on. To give you some indication of the size, you can see floor/wall strip & phone wires @ the bottom of the pic.

This one is actually a tourbook (not in my possession)

Hope you enjoy the pics.

I sure do. I am really envious of the large piece. I plan on buying many of the sketch covers this year. They look great hanging in my Shi-rine. I don't know yet if I will have Billy do the full sketch on the comic board, though I have plenty ideas. I just know that visiting Billys booth this year will probably end up costing me around $200.00 easily.
