JULIE SCHWARTZ DIES

Comics legend Julie Schwartz passed away this morning at 2:30 am at Winthrop Hospital in New York from complications related to his recent battle with pneumonia. He was 89 years old.

The architect of much of the Silver Age of comics, this year, Schwartz would have celbrated 60 years of working with DC Comics. He was an inspiration to at least two generations of comics creators, and his influences and contributions to the medium will be felt for decades and decades to come. Despite his age, Schrawtz had a very active presence at comic book conventions up to and including last year, prior to the decline in his health.

Schwartz's longtime friend Mark Evanier has written an obituary that can be found here http://www.newsfromme.com/index.html.

The funeral for Julie is scheduled for tomorrow morning, February 9th.

Wonderfully nice man...

Another great loss for comics and a true gentleman to boot.

I am very sad, but glad to have met and spoke with him so many times.

He ALWAYS remembered me!

Meet them all, shake their hands and tell them thank you!

A nice tribute to Julie teaming up with Superman on his 70th birthday is here at the Fortress of Solitude.

Met him many years ago when I was used to hang out at DC - Julie was the exec editor and still brown bagging it.  Wotta guy!  Youll be missed, Mr Schwartz.

Everyone has a Julie Schwartz story.

I've got a good one, though it will have to wait until a few more people join him (it's nothing big, and nothing you couldn't tell in person... it just would seem mean in print if the other folks concerned were to read it and that's not how it came across).

That said, what an interesting man and what a interesting life!
