Hack, Kurosawsa's "High & Low' great non-samurai film hard boiled detective hriller adapted from Ed Mc Bain's novel. Great perfs from ifune & Nakadi and love that
widescreen compositons in and outside of Mifune's
fool on the hill abode. Original title" Heaven and Hell".
When one thinks Akira Kurosawa, this is definitely overlooked and you'll never hear "Now or Never" in th same vein again.

First half of the film - kidnap drama with Toshiro in conflict.

2nd half - hard ass police procedural that would have
Dick Wolf squirming.

"Alphaville" best pop art adaptation of a non-comic book pulp thriller from New Wave master Godard.  Lemmy Caution doesnt get much tougher than pitted against the super computer Alpha 60.  Brilliantly shot by Raoul Coutard, this intergalactic futureworld in simply Paris 1965 in smoky, neon black and white with a poetic, over intellectualized jazz riff. And the sumptous Anna Karina.
