Thanks for the kind words folks... I really appreciate it.
Awesome cover! I don't think I've ever considered reading a comic with a bear in charge before. Are they all bears?
The publishers are calling the book a "space opera" and from what I've seen it's really like BSG and Star Trek on steroids. Not all the characters are bears... apparently the backstory here is that some planet was divided up into warring factions, and they eventually destoyed their own planet and moved on into the galaxy... the factions were mammals, birds, reptiles, and sea-dwellers. The space station shown here was manned by bears and after the attack and destruction of the Ursus 9, all 4 factions find that they must band together to fight this new threat.
So the short answer is no. There will be all sorts of animals.
Looks fun. Let us know when to order, or maybe you'll arrange to sell us signed copies.
The publisher wants to have the series come out Spring of '08... in time for next convention season... and enough time between now and then to get a handful in the can before going to press...
And I will indeed have copies to sign and sell at conventions next year!
That is so cool. How excited that you must be. I remember when I first saw my name in a comic back in '87 it was the biggest thing, but to have an actual cover? Priceless. Also have interior work? You are the man!
It's not just working on the book that's cool... I've worked on another book before taking over for Christopher Jones on The Mighty 1.... but that book was already designed. All the characters were already developed... their environment was already established.
The cool thing about this project is I'm designing everything... All the characters are what I choose them to look like... I get to figure out how a bird is supposed to sword fight when he has no fingers. I design the look of the space ships and weapons... The publisher has a sense of what it should look like and so far they seem to be happy... It's just too cool to be in on the ground level
This Project is really fun and very challenging from every aspect and I'm very excited about how it's going...
BTW, I'm finishing up the last page for the preview book... and the running gameplan is that it will be entirely in pencil... the preview is really the first half of issue 1 where this bit will be inked... so it could be considered a variant sketch comic book (not just the cover!)
Thanks again for the interest and I will continue to keep you informed of progress if you want to see it...
