The Cross-over Billy Should Do or "my" pitch

Back in 2005 I thought of this cross-over, constantly bugging my wife all the time about her thoughts and opinions.  Well after some modest expense and work to show my personal commitment to this story I'd like to "officially" throw out this idea/idea's.  I think it's nothing new to the forum that I'm a huge Top Cow and Billy Tucci fan.  Originally upset that one of my favorite characters "Shi" could never stand a chance in a Wizard shootout I started thinking about a what if storyline.  During 2005-2006 I thought on and off about ideas, towards the end of 2006 I decided to get more serious and started paying artists to do renderings for me, while doing some writing.  What started as a fun idea became more serious as it would be a dream come true to be a comic book writer. My heart is racing as I type this.

Inspired by the Writers and Artists of Top Cow Comics and Shi Creator Billy Tucci with tips from Forum Guru Delvie

One warrior haunted by the demons of her past and present.  What if she had the power of a God, the ability to destroy those demons and creating justice through whatever means? Another warrior haunted by his past and present who already has the power of a God, yet unsure of where he stands.

Jackie Estacado bearer of the Darkness is bored with life. Jackie’s been feeling a little down in the dumps, and who wouldn’t……you’ve got God like powers of chaos, a boatload of Mafia money, and he can’t score a chick.  Well at least not without risking his life rounding for home plate.  What’s a guy to do? After many comments from the nut gallery also known as his darkling’s he decides that shopping and spending some serious money redecorating his personal prison of a home is just the ticket.

How does a Mafia boss spend money?  He spends it Big, and does it Privately.  Since Jackie has had too many close calls as of late he has decided to do some Martial Arts training and in the spirit of things has decided a Japanesse/Chinesse decor might be appropriate.

Not one to spare any expense Jackie calls a well known Japanese art dealer, Oike Gallery, for a private showing during the night. Mr. Oike concerned for a lonely employee that has become more like a daughter arranges for Ana to do the showing.  From first site of Ana stepping through the door and shaking off a light dusting of snow Jackie is hooked.



It's not Art anymore that he wants.  Upon first touch Ana looks into Jackie’s eyes and is startled by the illusion of a demon. After a landslide of one liners from Jackie and his darkling’s, Ana, who is still unsure, agrees to be walked home. Upon their walk home Jackie is assaulted by some of Pauli’s thug's. (Resource current issues of The Darkness)  While more then able to defend herself, Jackie steps to the plate and shows he's not such a bad guy.

The two go out several more times, finding a common past.  Both were orphaned at a young age growing up with others shaping their lives and who they would become.   Here we see young Jackie witnessing Mafia boss and adopted father Frankie beat and assassinate a lacke teaching how no weakness or mercy can be shown in order to create the unbeatable Mafia hit man with no remorse. (See possible "origin's" Darkness storyline) On the other hand we see young Ana looking at a lifeless deer which gave it's life so that she might survive during her early day's of Shoei training with her adopted father while he teaches a life for a life and the balance of good and evil. (See possible "origin's" Shi storyline)

During this time Ana through the guise of Shi discovers that Jackie is indeed an up and coming Mafia Boss struggling to gain control of the "Family", come on he's Italian and has money anyone could figure that.  During one such outing Jackie is set up at a meeting of the minds so to say.  All the local Mafia bosses are there, thugs in tow, to discuss why Jackie who had given up his own "father" to the Feds should now be the Boss of New York.  Jackie wants peace on the streets, but it's going to be under his thumb.

After discussion through the night the sun is starting to break the city skyline and Ana ponders her role in life and decisions she will have to make regarding Jackie.  She see's the man that he is, and the man he could be.  As the sun continues to rise, Ana hears a shriek and something approaching in the distance.

Jackie hears the shriek and at once knows.  The Angelus has come for him.  Ana whiteness’ a blood bath,



Mafia thugs unloading wave after wave of bullets and the Angelus and her warriors cutting them down.  After a grueling battle throughout the hotel Jackie makes his way outside into an alley where the Angelus takes advantage sending Jackie into a garbage bin. Ana fearing Jackie's end, steps up to the plate going toe to toe with the Angelus.  The Angelus gains the upper hand but realizes Shi isn't one of Jackie's creations, only to find during the fight she ignored her fallen prey.



Able to score some damage on the Angelus, Jackie uses his Hellhounds to flee into the sewers of New York.  Ana overwhelmed by concern and confused by these strange powers persue's him into the sewers.

It is then that Shi finds what she is truly up against when she is surrounded by darklings in the dark sewers where Jackie’s powers come to life. Literally.

Jackie's Hellhounds try to point out what Jackie already knows.  The smell of Ana's perfume was easy to make out in the sewers when Jackie stands right behind Shi. The delicate flower he had grown to love has thorns.  At this point both of them are forced to come clean with their past, no secrets can be left.

Ana after spending the rest of the day and into the night leaves Jackie still unsure of where she stands.  It's not the first time Ana has had to play this same game, and last time it didn't turn out well. (See previous issues of Shi)

The sun again starts to rise on a new day.  Perhaps Jackie’s last. 

Jackie and his darkling’s proceed to work themselves into a blood lust frenzy.  Like clockwork the Angelus makes her move.  Not long into the battle the already weakened Jackie begins to wane, and is speared to the wall, unable to continue both mentally and physically. Just then Shi enters the battle saving several of Jackie's darklings from impending doom.  This time it's Shi with the upper hand, flanking the Angelus from the rear. During a sweeping jump kick Shi decapitates the Angelus.  A ball of light bursts from her chest rocketing toward the sun.

Re-union and surprise insue's as Shi pulls the Spear of Destiny from Jackie’s shoulder. Ana looks upon the spear and its strange inscriptions. Jackie looking upon his recent wounds is unaware of Ana's actions.

Ana begins to read the inscriptions out loud.  The look in Jackie’s eye's and following response is all too late. 

The ball of light already approaching the sun circles around returning to earth. In centuries of time the wielder of the spear of destiny and powers of the Angelus were many.  Yet none with the skills of a warrior, let alone Shi's ability. As the ball of light approaches, Shi re-acts, splitting the ball of light with the spear, only to have it re-join and strike her.

The power of a God bent on the destruction of evil and ultimate justice, her justice.  Only one with the power of chaos can stand in her way.

We see Jackie running off into the distance as Ana jumps to the rooftop.

Beware Jackie Estacado….there is no hiding from Death….

I have realized that Top Cow may not wish to part with their beloved current Angelus and have a different storyline similar, yet introduces a new force bent on the destruction of Jackie and the Darkness. LOL......but that's another story!

Pretty darn good read there. I guess I will have to search for the pic that you requested of Shi/Angelus and finish it.  I don't know why I never got around to finishing it. Once I find it, I can send you an IM so you will have an idea of what it looks like.

As for the art, believe me, I went through 6 artist requests over a 2 year period.  3 E-bay auctions that I never saw the art for.  My Finial artist I think was killer however!!

I felt it then and feel it even more now.  It's a no brainer.  Both live in New York. One is Mafia, the other searching for evil and saving those in need.  Both single and alone.

It was a story that I've been feeling for a long time.  I'd like to go back to when the Darkness first came out, the darklings had all kinds of one liners much like spiderman that just made you laugh.  And I want some serious fight scenes, I've got some creative idea's for battles that have not yet been used by Top Cow as of late.  The Darkness still have lots twists that can be taken.

To Top and as a Bonus for Billy. The Darkness is hot right now and they are pushing everything.  They are "all in" when it comes to the darkness. If there is an idea out there they seem to be using it.  A new PS3 video game, pushing 2 titles a month, talk of others, and now a talk of a movie.  They are out there and I'd think they might like this idea.  Good for the Cow and good for Billy.  I don't see the downside.  Of course revisions and more writing and everything else as I've never published.  But I'd think someone could take my idea's and run with it?

I love the idea TJ!  There are some problems though.  I know Top Cow would never kill Angelus.  I'm personally not crazy about the idea that she sleeps with Jackie.  I know I've had Ana spend the night with Pete, but I try to keep that to a minimum.  I also think she'd be a bit freaked out over the Darklings, since they're pretty vile, but we've had worse.  I'd love to pitch a crossover with them, but think we'd have to change those things.  What do you suggest?

Your writing is great as well, very visual and paints a picture where you can see everything.  It's just as good as any other pitch I've read from any pro!

ok I have been holding out on saying anything, since I am the other half.  But, when he showed me this, I told him he had to pitch it to Billy!  I think it is a fresh idea and I think there are a lot of things that can be done with this crossover. 

I know Tj and I have both said that TC wouldn't agree with killing of the Angelus, but I do agree that it could be toyed with and make it work.  I think Tj was pulling more for showing the frustration of Jackie's attraction to Ana, but not wanting to give up the powers of the Darkness which really hasn't been addressed since the start of the book, but I could be wrong.

Anyways, this is his story arc and I will let him critiquie it with you, but I see his visuals when he describes it to me.  I am so excited that he finally got this out!!!  I know he has more in that head of his.

As for the art commission, it was to be with Shi as the Angelus, at the time I didn't want to give the plot idea away.  But as Dawn has said if I just sit on the idea forever, and tell no one but her about it, then I'll never see it printed.  So if you're willing, then yep......please do Shi as the Angelus!

Well Shi can not get the power of the Angelus without her death.  However, I have a alternate story introducing a new force bent on the destruction of Jackie.  A group called Guardians of the Light.  The story is very close.  It differs only in the sense that Ana and Jackie become a team up.  Ana sensing the good in Jackie while the Guardians want his death. Period.  As for the relationship, no matter how much they grow closer, they can never "hook up" without it killing Jackie. So the two team up to keep Jackie alive, where the relationship goes after is anyone's guess.

Right off the bat.  It was not my intention for Ana to sleep with Jackie.  Poor summery on my part.  I wanted Ana and Jackie to spend the night talking and Ana seeing the "softer" "funny" side of the darklings.  I have several Darklings that I'd like to bring out.  Jackie CAN NOT sleep with Ana.  Long story but the Darkness is past father to son at conception, if he slept with Ana it would be his death.  That does not mean that Jackie does not seek compainionship, he just can't have SEX, EVER. I more invisioned Ana patching/bandaging Jackie as the two of them talked while some of Jackie's softer Darklings came out of the dark.  Jackie could kiss or cuddle, but nothing more unless he had a deathwish.

Ana WILL be freaked out by the Darklings.  Ana knows that Jackie is a tough guy, soon learning his involved on some level with the Mafia.  Jackie can create basicily what he invisions.  The downfall is that he MUST understand it's inner workings.  As a former hitman he can manifest slews of guns, but he's not a Dr. so he can't make a girl to "score" with.  But, what monsters lie in the mind of a killer, Ana should be afraid of.  In some of the fight scenes with Jackie getting out of the hotel, and in the sewers I want battles and monsters like Jackie has never released.  Jackie is not completely evil either, he does have a gentle side to him, and thus he does have some more gentle darklings. Little guy's like "Map" who Shi first met's in the sewer...."Bookworm" who really is just that, he does research for Jackie...."Potato" who is Jackie PS3 gaming buddy who just loves to play the new Darkness video game...that I'd like to introduce with this storyline.  It would be that night that Ana decides Jackie is a person worth saving.

I'd love to talk about it more.  With the alternate version of the storyline Ana does NOT change into anything.  She merely fight's to help keep Jackie alive and deal with some of his personal demons, perhaps forming a friendship for later cross-over's.  To top, it could be used as a set up for your "origin's/growing up" storyline and if Top Cow wanted an "origin's/growing up" storyline for The Darkness. In addition, the alternate version could have a short run spin off telling the other side of the story, much like Turner has done with the Fathom storyline.  While this may not benefit you directly, it could be used as an option for Top Cow to want to do it?

Personally I don't put one-shot's or cross-overs into a character story time line.  It's an off shoot, what if kind of thing.  Certainly a cross-over can be part of a time line, I just never expect it to be.  So often it's pulling characters to other realms, or odd situations that usually make no sense.  It's just a fun little read that tides you over to the next story.

Like I said tell me what you want me to do, I'll do it.  I am even willing to get more artwork done to help sell the alternate storyline?

I guess that I'm one of those people that Billy talked about.  I like keeping Ana in the real world, not subjecting her to the superhero or supernatural realms of comics.

If it weren't her, I'd love the story.

well not a fan of any more comics with superheroes demons or monsters teaming up with SHI as I Dont buy them ever but here is one crossover I would kill to see that would actually fit in very well with realistic SHI

Since I only have a readers/fan perspective of The Darkness I couldn't tell you if it's "biology damned" or not.  While other storylines have "eluded" to a way around the problem,  Jackie has no certain answer, and has found that at times the darkness has a mind of it's own.  So I'm not sure if the powers of the Darkness would allow for use of multiple forms of contraceptive.  So if it's a choice of sex and death or no sex and live. Jackie op's for the safest route.

After a 10 year break from comics, The Darkness is what drew me back in.  If it wasn't for the Darkness storyline Dawn would have never picked up a Shi comic and we would be all the richer, and would have also missed out on some very nice friedships.  

I love that storyline so making a story to bring together two of my favorite titles "The Darkness" and "Shi" was fun.  If you feel that Stormshadow, who by the way is also a fav character of mine, is a better match, by all means write your own story. But I don't feel that two warring organizations one a vigilanty orginization publicly funded by world nations battling another secret organization around the world that never seems to run out of money or world dominating DNA altering idea's with both sides possessing superhuman ninja's, and having neither side ever inflicting damage or significant casualties in a 2 decade period of time, "realistic". So I don't see how a Stormshadow Cross-over would "fit in" any better, I mean, if you want to talk "realistic"?

A superhuman Ninja is more "plausable" then someone with god like powers no doubt I'll agree with you, but no more realistic.

I started reading The Darkness, but let it slide when the purse strings tightened up years ago, so I have no idea if the story has even approached the idea of contraceptives. 
Hey, we all have our little fantasy stories involving Shi, don't we?  Mine is more of a detective story that has her hunting down the source of some rare Japanese artwork that has started appearing in the USA.  Someday I'll get around to putting it down on paper!

I was merely pointing out that these were big cross-overs that Billy has already done, not that you should/would read them.  Just that they've already been published and my story could fall into a catagory that has, again, already been done.

and ummmm you havent read the comic books of GI JOE in a long time I see and again its the Storm Shadow book that I am suggesting not the main title. I think you should maybe check out the comic because its obvious you havent read it in a long long time

I went through this in another thread, but your right I haven't read any in a long time, other then my son's Sigma 6 which I'm sure is "G" rated. I've been collecting the Storm Shadow/snake eye's declassified and Storm Shadow book, but just as eye candy and fond memories of my youth, I haven't read them.

It IS my first suggestion pitch for a story to Billy, and you are certainly more then free to say you don't like it/wouldn't buy it. But since I'm trying to get my idea to Billy to see it published, I will most certainly stand my ground and defend my story and it's timing. 

1)I and the "very few" others I shared it with felt it was a good/fun cross-over others would enjoy. (Not that it doesn't need tweaking)
2)It's no different then other cross-overs Billy has done in the past using Shi.
3)The Darkness is hot as a comic, new PS3 game, and now there is talk of working on a movie/cartoon.  The Darkness is making money, Billy likes money.
4)Billy's work on HFH is over and I don't want to see his heel's go cold and miss losing new fan's. If using my idea helps keep Billy's name and art on the comic shelves until he writes something new for Shi, I will considered myself a good friend and a new "rookie" writer on the block.

Again I discussed this in another thread. Bought em, haven't read em.  I LIKE the supernatural plots and powers storylines so I'm not sure I'd like it any more or less?  If I wanted real I'd be doing not reading since I'm an active student in Pai Lum Tao Kenpo. Lord knows in the "9 hours 5 mintes" the forum say's I've been on this board I could have bettered my "Flowing Sea's" form and "Katana Battle Set 7".  ( I really hate knowing how much time I've been sitting on my butt).  I have an active imagination and will always be a kid at heart so the idea's of superpowers and whatnot make me happy. Furthermore based on comic book sales of said mutant, superpower, demon/angelic, mystical crap comics......I'm not alone.

I like the idea of a Tomb Raider cross-over!  Sheena on the other hand, isn't that the Jungle chick fighting dinasours in jungles? How would they team up.  Not that I'm against a sexy pin-up of the two done by Billy!

In conclusion:  If you like my story, cool.......If you don't, I'll be honest, I'll feel like I suck on some level....If you bring up idea's that Billy might like to make to my story to help me sell the pitch to Billy and Top Cow, thanks....If you want to bring up your own idea's for a cross-over, make your own thread don't hi-jack mine cuz with a few hours of sleep between work and home I'm a very moody aspiring writer looking for a fight.

Yes, this is my husbands pitch and I am going to back him up on his pitch, it has taken me months to get him to get to do this. 

But, I think there is potential here with this pitch in so many different angles. 

Billy is an amazing artist and can write a great story.  Billy likes to do different things to, not on the sense of altering Ana, and I can see his view point on that.  But what I also think this is a great way to get Billy being the great artist we all know but Top Cow also brings in some fresh and great artists threw their doors...Turner, Talent, and the numerous others, but I think the comined force of Cow and Billy would take the industry by storm.  I know that there are several Froum members that collect Top Cow art so why not "tip" the Cow or "graze" the field with a possibilty of a crossover of this type, because what better then to have a great "eye" candy cover but then a great story to boot, but then that is why I have stayed with Shi for all these years.

Tomb Raider
Sheena ( also done by DDP the company that does JOE )

I like the idea of a Tomb Raider cross-over!  Sheena on the other hand, isn't that the Jungle chick fighting dinasours in jungles? How would they team up.  Not that I'm against a sexy pin-up of the two done by Billy!

Now I am NO expert on SHEENA but I believe you could be wrong on the Sheena statement I believe your wrong on Sheena because that is Shanna by marvel ( or a similar name ) that you sound like you are talking about . Its easy to get them confused  ( I did too at first )because Marvel copied Sheena after she was in existance for quite some time. Sheena was the fist comic book GIRL that had her own book. Years before wonder women. SO ya  I am pretty for sure what you are talking about is NOT what Sheena by DDP  is.

Ah, I kinda jumped on you, sorry.  You can ask my wife and kids, on the weekend's when I work my fuse is REALLY short.  I suppose anything that keeps this post up there and in Billy's face is good. LOL
