READY TO KICK SOME ASS

The Last Best Weekend  Mid-Ohio 2006

Well the Con season is over at least for me.  I set a new record this year with I think 7 Conventions.  Wow  am I hooked or what.

So where to start. Mid-Ohio Con 2006.  Right in the middle of  Deer hunting season. And the Weekend of  Thanksgiving.  Well it could have been a lot worse. How often can you walk around Downtown Columbus Ohio in late November at 11:00 at night WITH OUT A COAT!  It was great. 61deg during the day and still very nice at night.
Now I did not go to this show in the past so I have no reference for it. But it was at a new location that was much bigger than the old place so I was told.  But a lot a artist said it was very slow.  But I had heard the numbers were up.

It was only a 2 day show and the drive took about 3 hours. So that part was great. Not so great was leaving home at 3:00 thinking my drive would take 6 hours. What was I thinking. So I was at the hotel by 6:30 I went to the front desk and asked if I could check in early. I was told if I did not mind a smoking room it would not be a problem. Well Since it has Been 1 full year since I quit smoking what better test than to sleep in a smoking room.  Funny how I never could smell what  I smell now. Never again. I still have to tell myself that from time to time.

Well after a little nap a quick shower and time to go sneak in the show.  This is the first con this year that I have paid to get into. I pre-ordered a VIP Pass that gets you in one hour before the masses. But that was not good enough.  Normally I am always helping someone set up and would get an exhibitor passes. But not this time.  There was a line of fans waiting to get in. but me I just waited in the background till a few dealer were walking in and I just pretended to be with them Do not make eye contact  never stop and do not look back.

After  running around for 2 hours setting up commissions I decided to go and get a drink and who did I find sitting at one of the concision stand tables none other than our very own Joe Snider resting of coarse,  those lines getting in are a killer.  One of these cons Joe I will show you how to just walk in with out a badge. Hahaha It was good to see you again.

Where to start

Ok here we go Marc Wolfe was kind enough to let me keep my bag at his booth all weekend.
I was excited to see a Ghost Rider Litho marc had just finished it was based off of a sketch I had gotten from Buzz at the last Convention.  This was one of the  AP prints and  Also did the remark on the bottom for me.

I also did a bit of a theme of SuperGirl at this con  Marc started it off with this one.

These Next 3 are from Dick Ayers he is one of the old timers that come to some of the shows I like to get work from them sometimes not so much because I like the work but because I feel I am helping support them.

Next we move of to My rule
When you are at a Comic Convention and go to the host bar at night. Never never never go with out markers.
These next 3 are from no one you would know but still fun all the same.
The first one is from a girl who just wanted to play with my markers. she was a writer dose it show. Sorry but I forgot her name.

This next one is from a guy  by the name of Bill Ellis. I like his Barroom Heroine, you will see another one from him in the Delvie Section on my post.

Now you might be saying I thought he said there were 3, well if you look at the top of the Barroom Heroine, you will see some dots.  Yes Dots James Hatton has written a whole book staring you guessed it Dots. I kid you not.

These next two are from a guy I have bought from in the past his name is G.W.Fisher  These will be sent to be painted  By Fabi Vargas She has been painting a bunch of stuff for me. I will share it with you when she send it back.

Next we have a piece I waited in line for at the actorcomicfund.org  booth  what they do is help older artist who are in a bit of finance trouble check them out. They are a good group. Anyway this is by  Angle Medina.  From what I heard it is very hard to get him to do a sketch.

This next one I did not think I would be able to get on his list. So I did not try till late in the day as it was I talked my way on and was the last one for the weekend.  But then when I was asked what I wanted I choked  I drew a blank. Nothing came to mind. So he had this huge poster and I said one of those.

And here we are to another one of my con Favorites Louis Small Jr. not one of his best but  it will do.

I have been waiting to be able to get more stuff from this next artist I just love his style. Stuart Sayger
This SuperGirl will become a full color Litho.

Now on to the Shi

I have been wanting Stuart to do a Shi for me since the first time I saw his Style. I really love this one.
I have not decided if I want to send it back to him to paint some color.

This convention I had a mission I have tried and tried (4th convention) to get a commission from Adam Hughes. And have yet been able to even get on the list let alone be one of the ones that  got a sketch. That was till this Weekend. Adam has strict rules. First no dealers badges.  Second  no  hiding around a corner and pop out  just as the crowd  gets in. If you are seen you will not get on the list. Next a 2 day show the list is limited to just about 20 names.  Now getting on the list dose not mean you will get a sketch.  And there is no order to the list. Adam looks at the list of request. And picks what he feels like doing. Never complain about the process or you could be removed from the list. And all of this happens in the first 5-10 mins after  the con opens.
I felt very lucky not only did I get a sketch but it was the only one with color he did all weekend.

Can't tell you how big of a giddy grin I had checking out the sketch covers. They Rock. YOU ROCK! I especially love the Louis Small cover. His Shi sketch reminds me of another famous artist (which is so famous that the name escpes me right now).

If you do send the Stuart back to him for colors, make sure you make color copies of the b/w 1st. It's too cool not to have a copy as is. Hell. I'll pay for your copy if you make me one. LOL

The rest of the non-Shi... nice grab, brough!

Nah. It was another artist that was popular during Nagels height. They both did a lot of illustration for Playboy. The distinct difference was that Nagel did a lot of Solid color fillin where this other artist mostly did line art shading (I know my art terminology is is all fubarred on that description - sorry).

One of my all-time favorite words. It cracks me up when people have no clue as to what it means.

F'ed Up Beyond All Recognition (or Repair)
yup... I have to explain it about every 3rd time I use it, myself. It didn't didn't exactly come from a blockbuster movie, though. LOL So it's understandable.
