I don't know where to post this...but I'm so excited I had to tell somebody.
I met Bernie Wrightson this past weekend and was leafing through his original pencil sketches and I found one that would suit my comicbook cover.
It was originally done for a trading card set but was never accepted. I bought it from him along with the publishing rights.
As soon as I scan it...I'll post it here.

Unfortunately I now have to find an inker and colorist that can do Bernie's work justice.

Mark Sparacio skips the inking process - just coloring.

I thought about skipping the inks but I don't think Bernie's pencils would stand out...unless you do a digital watercolor, which would suit Bernie's work. Most of his paintings were watercolor anyway.

Sparacio does watercolor that looks better than digital watercolor.  I like his work.

Here's an update on the Wrightson sketch. It's still a toss up on whether I go with an ink and color job or a full painted rendering...so far two people have chimed in with their pieces. Let me know what you think.

This first one is Marc Deering's ink job which I think captures Bernie's style rather well.

This one is a full painted piece done by Andrea Trenbeath.

I like and dislike some things about the color piece.
The eyes and teeth really stand out - which is great.
The neon green effect was overpowering.

I don't think the green was overpowering, I do think that around the chest and arms the picture becomes a little muddy. It needs to be more defined.

Well...here's an update. An artist all the way from Spain has chimed in with his colored version of Bernie's work. Let me know what you think...

I'm on the fence with this. I love the fine detail. But it really doesn't get an emotional response from me like the earlier color job...almost as if it seems to real to be scary. I don't know.

What color do you think it should be? Maybe an ashey grey or go more demon like with a tannish red?

I do not see the red working the first thought I had when you said red was a vision of hellboy so I do not think that would work.

but the ashey grey sounds cool but if you go gray on the skin the eyes would have to change.
