Hellion For Hire’s Back — a lot of writing, commissions and at least two new lithos for S.D.C.C.

Filed under: From the Studio — billy @ 8:57 am

The newest Hellion For Hire (#24) should be up this morning, so please check it out and comment on it somehow! I’ve also been writing the issue by issue breakdown for the new mainstream book and doing tons of research. Been doing some commissons too (and will post them in few minutes), and drawing the first of two new lithos for Comic Con in S.D. I’ve also got to get out some orders and of course do another book for Delvie. At 12:30 today I’ve got to take the cat to get shaved and that’s gonna be a crazy ordeal. Since Matthew was born and Deb not feeling so great, her 18 year old Angora’s coat has gotten all matted. So I’ve got to hold the cat down as the groomer shaves her. That’ll be a lot of fun. Again, I’m shooting for a commission a day but have about 15 more to do! Don’t worry Scott I haven’t forgotten you!

What a Beautiful Day!

Filed under: From the Studio — billy @ 3:31 pm

Hot-Damn it’s gotta be the nicest day yet this year! Temps around 78 degree Farenheight and not a drop of humidity. Today’s been a very guilty day for me as I’ve been reading most of it. I’m doing research for my next big project but still have to do two commissions today. One I’m about to start and the other before dinner. Then it’s back to the books. Funny thing is how research takes of so much energy when writing about historical events. It’s a lot of fun but also so damn time consuming and then after you’ve learned just about all you could, there’s still more and it wears you down. Regardless, I should finish Delvie’s covers (the ones I have, plus his Antiquities Edition — will get squared away with you this week Delvie on everything). I also started a new Hellion but will break the present column I’m working on down to two. I should have it up on Newsarama on Wednesday. We had a very busy weekend (I doing some handy-man stuff around the house) and am beat from that and all the traveling we did. As for being beat — I just heard the coffee pot go off so let me get going. Oh, we’ve enrolled William in Swimming, Horseback riding and Karate for the summer. He’ll also be going to school to prep for Kindergarten, so I should find plenty of time to work!

William Graduates From Pre-School!

Filed under: From the Studio — billy @ 4:16 pm

Hey all, as many children before him, the darling William graduated from Preschool today. He actually goes to two different pre-schools and had his other last Friday. Deb, Matthew, my mother-in-law and I all had a great time there, but it was long and then we all went to Friendly’s for lunch. I got back and have been working on a charity Red-Tailed Hawk illustration that Sparky will be helping me out with and painting over the weekend. I’ve also been working on a CBG cove featuring the Black Canary and Green Arrow (just roughs) and lots of writing/research on the new project I’m doing. I’ve also got to do a Zombie-sama! press release, my new Hellion column (for Monday) and color guides for that book. Of course I’m also hoping to finish a bunch of commissions next week too. I think I can finish Delvie’s by Sunday afternoon.
Whew!

Drawing a Red Tailed Hawk`

Filed under: From the Studio — billy @ 10:05 am

I’ve also got to draw a Red Tailed Hawk for a charity thingy. I will first try and do it as impressionistic image. If it doesn’t work, I’ll get Sparky to paint it up for me.

Finally the Spring Con Run is Over!

Filed under: From the Studio — billy @ 9:58 am

Okee Dokie,
So, I’ve finally finished my massive traveling schedule of 8 cons/appearences in 9 weeks! I’ve gotten great word from one of Big Two for my next project and will be starting that very soon. In the meantime I’ll be drawing 3 commissions a day (Due to the Scott’s being more — when I do his it’ll be only one per day) so I’ll be posting commissions up everyday. I’m also pissed off at myself for not pursuing the new Shi series more and starting it in the Fall. I just don’t know why I didn’t but won’t live in the past and will just move on from there and get the ball rolling in that direction as well. I actually feel that a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders and can’t wait to just sit and draw/write for the next five weeks. I also ran this morning and can’t wait to get rid of the excess weight I’ve gained too. So who’s coming to Comic Con?

Back From Hoser Con, eh?

Filed under: From the Studio — billy @ 5:37 pm

Hello everyone!
I’m back from the Paradise Con in Toronto. It was a blast! I haven’t been to Canada in 8 years or so and I forgot just how beautiful the city is and how nice all the people are. Scott Lamky came up and partied with Me and Sparky ( I think we might have partied too much!). But Peter Dixon and Kevin Boyd put on one hell of a show indeed!

I also got to meet Darwin Cooke (who’s art I really admire) and hang with Terry and Robyn Moore.

As usual I’m exhausted after a Con so I’ll go into more detail tomorrow or later on this week. But I’ve got to head out to the Wizard World Philly Show Friday morning.

Before that, I’ve got to finish two commissions, one drawing for a friend, more Delive covers (will send you a bulk amount of the stuff I owe you Delvie in a week or two) and a CBG cover, but I’m going to try and blow that off till next Tuesday.

Well, let me get onto the roughs for the CBG cover.

Take Off, Eh!

Still tired, still stressed, still kickin’!

Filed under: From the Studio — billy @ 3:54 pm

Okay so I finished my intro to Dennis Mallonee’s Liberty Girl TPB. Now I’ve got to lay down some sketches for an upcoming CBG cover. It’s got Green Arrow and Black Canary kissing on it. I don’t remember if I wrote about that yesterday. I’ve also got to finish a new story pitch for DC as I’d like to send it in tomorrow. I’ve got a phone meeting with John Milius tonight too about our new story arc. I’m also going to take a stab at some more Delvie covers tonight. Well I’ve got some phone calls to make and sign some posters before getting back to the keyboard.

I’m getting tired — but I had a great meeting at DC!!!

Filed under: From the Studio — billy @ 3:49 pm

I’m getting real worn down. This past weekend, I had a great, GREAT, time in Dallas at the A-KON. But it’s also my 6th weekend trip in the past 7. I’ve got to go to Toronto next week and WW Philly the week after, so even though I love the shows and signings, man the travelling sucks.

I’m also really, really pissed as I left the windows open in my studio over the weekend and rain got into my scanner. I love this scanner and as of today it’s not working. It is working better than this morning, so hopefully as it dries out it’ll work. Jeez!

I did however have a GREAT meeting at DC with Dan Didio. He took me to lunch and we had an awesome meeting concerning some upcoming projects and me coming over to DC. Thing is that I’m pretty much convinced that I need to do a shorter Shi story (Prelude to WOTW?) for DH and either slip that in or get Sparky to draw it. Nine issues of Ring of Fire is just too much. I also have to write a new pitch for DC, the new Shi pitch, a piece for Slamky, go and hit some pre-kindergarten meetings for William and into the city for a meeting with a lawyer for Deb’s suit against her doctor. I found some more books for Delvie and hope to finish them all before I leave for Toronto Monday morning. If not I’ll bring them with me.

I think I’ll take most of the day off as we’ve got to go and visit some family tonight. I’ll probably work when I get home though…
