Around the country and the world for three shows in three weeks!

Filed under: From the Studio — billy @ 11:07 am

I’m getting ready for the Athens show. I finished my Tick page (but can’t show it yet) and am working on a new Newsarama column dealing with the NYCC. We’re also producing lithos of “Shi of Sparta” for the Athens show and will have them for upcoming North American cons too. Sorry I haven’t been on the boards or my blog, but three shows (Florida, NYCC and Athens) in three weeks got me a little loopy. How did I ever manage to book this? I must be insane!

Anyhow, I have to work on my newest pitch for Marvel (just writing, with Sparky on pencils hopefully) dealing with a Golden Age icon. I’ll post it when I’m done for a few hours to hear your thoughts. I also met with the DH people who are pysched to see the new Shi outline and some other projects. Right now my printing schedule is:

March 15, 2007 deadline, will take a week longer.
Fallen Angel Shi 11 pages of pencils (no inks)
March 25th - April 30
Marvel project (which is REALLY cool) with Chris Claremont - 36 pages, but this looks to be successful enough to spurn a miniseires. All the while doing the Shi outline and hopefully starting it for DH (pencils and script), but have to wait and see because of these developements…

I might be drawing a book with Steve Niles for DC (pencils again no inkers - hopefully ever again!). You’ve all read the pitch and Steve loved the concept and wants to write it. Since he’s in at DC and a wonderful guy, I think it will be a lot of fun. I also might be righting the above mentioned Golden Age Marvel book (5 issues) with Sparky on pencils — which would be great!
Writing and drawing “A Child is Born” comic on the birth of Jesus - in talks now, just have to finish the pitch and follow up.

2007 is turning out to be a very busy year, with a lot of work for me. The thing is that Shi will benefit if I do these mainstream things first. If I can get writing work from Marvel then I can go right into Shi, since the exposure will be great.

I’m also getting caught up on the commissions thankfully. TJ’s is next! I’ll talk with Scott about his in detail in Greece.

Will write more tomorrow and will hopefully have the pitch complete for your to read.

Three Cons in Three Weeks…

Filed under: From the Studio — billy @ 10:13 am

My Friends,
Tis true I’ve been away from the ol’ bloggin-noggin, but it has been on my mind. Last weekend I attended the Orlando Mega Con and it was one great show! Yes, the mighty Crusaders of past cons were all absent, but at least I’ll see Scott in Greece next week! I’m really beat from these shows and have a ton of work to do. I had a great meeting at Marvel early last week and they want me to pitch some stories I’ll be writing involving the Golden Age characters. My first pitch will be for the original Human Torch followed by one for the Blonde Phantom and then Miss America. I’ve got he Torch story pretty well in place and would like to see Sparky draw it if I don’t. I’ll also be doing a big book with Chris Claremont (starting in March) for Fall 2007 release. I hooked up with Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) and since he’s ubber talented and writes Batman, we’ll be pitching “Batman Blue Collar” to DC real soon (maybe even this weekend), so I’m pretty psyched about that. Well, let me get back to the drawing board and finish the “Tick” page then to get my crap together for the New York Comic Con.
Talk to you later!

Falling Behind and Falling Down

Filed under: From the Studio — billy @ 12:03 pm

Hello All,
I’m falling behind my scheduling. I owe Scott three commissions and Dawn and TJ one. I’m sure I owe someone else out there who’s reading this and for the delay I apologize. I’ve been doing one commission a week, but it’s fallen way off this winter. I have an art table put aside just for my commissions (I’ll post a picture later) and will get to all of them I promise. Again, much apologies but I’m getting to them all I promise!

Poor Deborah slipped on some water on the stairs and fell down Monday. She fractured her pelvis is in lots of pain and can’t do much . I’m playing Mr. Mom again while trying to finish the cover to Fallen Angel/Shi for IDW. I’ve also got my Hellion For Hire column to write along with questions for next week’s column. I’ve also got to write a damn press release for the NYCC. I’ve also got to head out to the Post Office to ship some orders. Ugh!

Tomorrow I’ve got to do the cover to the Greek Comic Con Slamky and I are going to. After that it’s Dawn and TJs sketch for the “Stickman” art they bought on eBay. Guy’s I’ll try and do both your commissions tomorrow night and get them out to you on Friday.

Whew! Better get back to this cover before William gets home in 1/2 hour.
