Mandolin draws action SHI part for film

With such male comic book action heroes as Spiderman, Batman, and Superman, finding success on the big screen, a female comic book action heroine may soon follow.

Mimi Polk Gitlin and her Mandolin Entertainment have optioned William Tucci's Female comic book series "SHI", which Tucci will adapt with screenwriter Kevin Bernhardt.

"SHI", published through Tucci's Crusade Fine Arts, has sold more than 4 million comics in six languages and has had a gross revenue in excess of $25 million.

The project is an action-thriller about a strong, independent women, of 21st century America who has come to New York bound by ancient beliefs to avenge the deaths of her father and brother. Although working by day as a liaison at the Japanese embassy, at night her warrior personality kicks in, entangling her in a series of investigations led by a New York detective who falls in love with her while helping her to come to terms with the profound revelation for her alter ego.

Gitlin next produces the Mandolin feature "Trapped", with Luis Mandoki directing. Gitlin was repped in the deal by attorney Linda Lichter
